The only thing it's capable of giving is a first-class-ear-infection...and a really nasty one at that.

speaking of ear infections, mine are starting to hurt, not from Prince's production techniques, but from the manner in which some choose to speak about the work of a prolific musical genius

sure, the over-all 'vibe' of Elixer oozes of snake, or at the very least a heroin addiction, but that's more to do with the chemistry created between Prince & Bria, than Prince alone

seems to me ur main problem is with Ms Valente, join the long list of women who share the same sentiment, but everyone with half an ounce of gray matter knows, that Prince's women are reflections of parts of himself

another thread mentions the edomites, serpentine creatures who are bitter enemies of the 'righteous ones'. here's a picture to clarify:

this is one of Prince's 'creations', a certain image he holds in his mind of 'woman' as she relates to the reptilian aspect of his nature

ELIXER is not the cup of tea for most because of the subconscious effect it has upon the listener, but it should be duly noted that this has less to do with Prince's musicianship,

and more to do with the energy conjured up between himself and his serpentine mental projection: Bria Valente

Brenda Fuentes on the other hand, still does exist, although not nearly as much as the alter-ego she has willingly allowed to take over her soul

ELIXER is for the most part, a representation of two toxic forces coming together, under the guise of love, and projecting a vain synthetic insincere and highly desperate work of utter fiction

once again, this is not about Prince's production techniques, but what happens when he allows his serpentine aspect to dominate the better part of his nature... ELIXER is the result

from their 'friendship', to their music, to the failure of lotusflow3r.com...

nothing real can be threatened, nothing unreal exists. heart

So there are people actually unresponsive to the cool title track? Brainwashed by hype (hype can be negative hype of anti-new-prince-bots)! It's like some people can't seperate what they hear from a context that just shouldn't really matter. The title track is great. As in, if it had been a bootleg song, I would have sought to collect a pristine copy. But that's it. The rest is not so memorable.

when i 1st saw ur post, i thought some1 might engage the thread on

the actual music.

by the way i disagree w/ your perspective of "desperate work of fiction,"

but see the collective, if i have to, as

embodying healing...love, even at the intersection of body and soul

for example, the track 'immersion' is mystical to say the least. the

piano is gentle, equally walking up/down the scales as is Bria's voice

if i am not mistaken, i think i hear an acoustic guitar in there as well

"into the new world, into the new world"

hey thats ok if you dont agree with my comment about this record being a desperate work of fiction

its easy to listen to something and totally buy into the first time round simply because of who produced it

i've read ur other comments about the song immersion and they seem to be referencing the charm of the snake, the slow slither, the feiging of spiritual sincerity

its what a snake does best

so when i say this record is a work of desperate fiction, its because it really is

none of it is genuine heart

(with all due respect to prince's production techniques)

this too shall pass

i find it interesting that there are Prince "fans" that refer to his music as trash

but, there is no two ways about it...

Elixer is beautifully mastered and a masterpiece for those who approach it

from a musical point of view

Do you find it interesting that a Prince fan calls his music trash, or that a Prince fan has a mind of their own and calls trash as such when they hear it?

There is two ways about it. It's trash. Masterpiece? Yeah ok, go listen to Marvin Gaye's What's Going On?, and listen to not only what he's saying, but what is happening in the course of the 35 minute record. Find out how that record changed the world, and how quickly people still think 99 cents for the Lotusfuck3r set is still too expensive for a lot of FANS here. I'm a musician, so yeah, I approach most every CD from a "musical point of view" (as if there's another way, even as a non-musician to listen to it?). It's garbage, forgettable, and another banal vanity project, as Spinlight stated.

Apart from the title-track, found the rest boring. My wife, who digs Prince but is not an avid fan, heard one of the trax when it came up on shuffle in the car. She was, like, "What's this???!!! Why have you got this on your Ipod? Sounds like elevator music! Please change it."

She rarely has that response except for loudness when she's not in the mood. (like PE, or Jimi at Woodstock etc)

I've since removed the album from my Ipod - listened once and since then skip trax when they come up on shuffle, so it was just taking up space...

"We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

"That's becuase we're soulless auttomatons"
