The last album ever.

Back when Prince recalled the Black Album, he had stated he didn't want that album to be the last one he released.

Do you think 20TEN fits the bill? If 20TEN were the last album he ever released for whatever reason, would this album feel fitting as the end of the Prince era?

20TEN is a good album, but I'm not sure I would want it to be the last ever. This is a tough question to answer, because his last will be his last, we will be stuck with it, no matter what we all think.
I would like his final album to be a big ass box set with loads of unreleased stuff, and the re-masters we have all been waiting on. I think that would be quite fitting. Then he could retire/die whatever, safe in the knowledge that the last thing he gave his fans was something that they really desired.

No. It has a few okay songs on it but it's nothing special at all, and coming on the heels of Planet Earth and Lotus, which were the same level of mediocrity, it represents a gigantic fizzle.

20ten is limp as a wet noodle. It's like a nice cuddle when you wanted a righteous shag. Whenever Prince goes out, I'd rather see him go out hard as a rock and nailing the hell out of us.

See I don't think his last album will be his last per se. He'll be like 2Pac or MJ, I think there will be a ton of releases after he passes(as sad as that will be) With that said, as much as I like 20Ten, no I wouldn't want that being his last contribution, I think I would've been happier had it been LF set or something in quantity & of course quality but it'll probably end up being something totally random knowing Prince.

Probably best to go out with this average/'better than some' album than release a poor sign-off. Let's face it, the blaze of glory that most wish for isn't going to happen because mist of what people miss isn't what he is about anymore

Sure.

I actully thought LoTUSFLOW3R could have been a 'sum it up' type album that had everything you were looking for out of resident musical genius, then 20Ten came out and I was like 'whoa' !!! One of these days we will have a FINAL album but I think LoTUSFLOW3R could have it been it, if there was a 'last album'.

Peace ... & Stay Funky ...

I really don't think he's going to stop anytime soon. An album a year, most years, at least.

Haha, maybe his last ever album should be called 'Righteous Shag'!

I'd buy that for a dollar!

As far as the general public is concerned, Prince hasn't released anything since Purple Rain (or maybe Sigh 'O' the Times). So what difference does it make?

Clearly, Prince feels good enough about his current material to release it. shrug

If it is then it is, but I hope he goes out with a BANG, not a 20Ten whimper. It doesn't really feel fitting because it's a half ass effort on his part, it was an album of average to above average songs he put together and distributed via newspapers and magazines sporadically to get folks talking about him and get buzz going for some tour dates. Womp womp. He's so much better than that.

Prince esta muerto...

Don't hate me, but when the time comes, I'd sooner see him go out with something like N.E.W.S... just some crazy-ass instrumental weirdness that we can all chew on for a couple decades.

And, yeah, open the vault. wink

I agree with this and what clarityman said. Authentic, passionate... and totally off the wall and from left field.

Open the vault, sure, but that's not new material and is simply an inevitability.

This would be his last album of new material, for whatever reason (death, retirement, Bria came all over the equipment and it broke, whatever).

In that case I'd rather the Lotusflow3r set had been the last.

Wow, I didn't expect so many folks to agree!

I could've been happy with Lotusflower, too. All I know is, as P's lyrics grow increasingly... well, you know, I'm leaning more toward instrumentals.

Like, imagine if Resolution had been the last song ever? shake

Well, at least he would retain the indie vibe he's had now for the past decade-ish. lol

Honestly, I would be OK with this being the last album ever.

It's not his best work, but it's good enough...OK, that sounds kinda bad.

If his last album were something like The Rainbow Children, that would be much better. Something that's unexpected, sincere, and musically/lyrically ambitious.

No. And I don't really understand this thread, either. lol I like 20ten quite a bit. More than most of 3121 and all of Planet Earth. Plus, I fully expect the guy to release about 20 more albums. But figuratively speaking, hypothetical and all, if Prince were to have eaten a bad pancake and croaked unexpectedly, Lotusflow3r would have been a nice way to go out... other than the website mess. lol
