I just read an interview with Randy Newman from the late 80's where he mentioned Prince several times, in reference to being one of the modern songwriters who was as great as the greats (quoting Adore "maybe not the ride..."), and for his embracing of modern technology (which Randy himself was cautious of).

He also commented on his use of dissonance as an advanced musical tool, saying his new album (most likely Lovesexy) was "the most dissonant album ever done in rock music, the paisley purple whathchamajigger!" smile

Richard Thompson. He covered "Kiss" for his 100 Years of Popular Music tour and included it on the album.

Someone should compose a thorough list 4 this, and make it as complete as possible.

Anyone care 2?

Hm?

Anyone?

Right, it would be interesting to know which celebrity is not a Prince fan!

Does somebody know one?

Elijah Wood. When I saw the first installment of the Lord of the Rings, I thought, "There's something purple about that hobbit." Later during an interview, he said that he liked Prince's music. biggrin

Far more of them are than aren't. But a majority of them love the "prime" years and haven't followed him closely since then.

Lets not get attending a Prince gig or two mixed up with being a fan.

I have been to lots of gigs where i did not really care for who i was seeing. I used to go to a lot of gigs with friends for example, just for the company and because i happened to have been given a ticket.

Same with celebretards, i wonder how many of these has attended a Prince gig because of a free ticket or 5, or who were maybe there to accompany someone else.

Don't automatically make them a fan.

Yes i watched an Elton John tv interview once, and he was saying that he is a big collector of Prince's music too.

When Freddie Mercury was alive, Elton and Freddie used to have dinner parties at each others homes, and then play the group of guests a bunch of Prince videos.

Dinner with Elton or Freddie, then Prince for afters. lol

Springsteen said he's one of the best performers he's ever seen live.

Joni Mitchell and Prince are mutual fans of each other. She said she remembered seeing him in the audience when he was 15 (which would've been around "Court and Spark" - 1973/1974), front row, and said it was hard not to notice him at the time.

Fellow Minnesotan (or former) Bob Dylan has mentioned liking his music a lot.

Foo Fighters - also mutual appreciatation.

Anderson Cooper - someone mentioned that he was at a Prince show for 2 complete sets.

Nina Simone - covered "Sign O' The Times". Miles Davis...

this could go on.

Who isn't a Prince fan? Seriously, he is an awesome musician in every sense of the word and different! Only his true fans know what he's all about, to others he's a mystery...

Been a R.Kelly fan for 8 years now. I don't think I've heard any quotes of him mentioning Prince, let alone commenting on him...? If you have any, please share smile
