to write a song about this place ?

http://maps.google.be/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=nl&geocode=&q=Lavaux,+Zwitserland&sll=50.805935,4.432983&sspn=3.666113,9.832764&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Wijngaardterrassen+van+Lavaux,+Vaud,+Zwitserland&ll=46.513043,6.753159&spn=0.062376,0.153637&t=h&z=13

He's super short, believes in an all-powerful "force" and really likes the color purple.

Is that too literal?

First i thought you'd asked for what inspired him to write the "purple yoda" line..

Well, that would have been awfully simple, i guess Star Wars would have been the answer, especially the character "Yoda" who's featured prominently in it.

Now you actually meant the song "Lavaux", right? That's a hard one, i guess it's too tough for the .org. Maybe it was Lake Minnetonka?

Shhhh.... break it down...

Ooooh. This is actually about Lavaux. Well... umm... I would think performing twice in Switzerland and visiting the place would probably do it.

Still too literal?

You did'nt know Prince & Yoda are cousins?!!? They're both small in stature, have elf-like ears & PIMP a cane.wink

[Edited 7/19/10 19:41pm]

Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

it's pretty sure he sings yoda, but that's a little off-topic here. The question is on Lavaux !

so, ok, Lavaux is a place in Switzerland. And he performed two times at the festival of Montreux. But it's Prince. That would be a little too simple.

What I was thinking was the following.

He sings about the mountains of Lavaux with a lot of passion. You hear that in the timbre of his voice, especially in the last half of the song. I am thinking Lavaux is a metaphor. He could care less about the nature and the lakes and the vineyards. I'm sure as a JW he's not even allowed to drink. I believe that with Lavaux, he actually means Celine Dion and his secret relation with her when they were both performing in Vegas.

The mountains refer to her curves or her tits, to put it bluntly. The fact that she performed at the eurovision song festival for Switzerland in 1988 make all the pieces come together.

Do you feel it too ?

I thought the same thing and was going to post I heard the org inspired the "Purple Yoda" reference. Don't know if it's true or not. I agree with 80rn7rue the actual place inspired him to write Lavaux.

It probably comes from a joke from an episode on SNL.

I forgot which one.

^ I'm pretty sure that is the source. His inspiration for songs these days is fairly simple and weak.

OK, it's official. Star Wars and Switzerland ain't got nothing to do with any tracks on 20Ten. Think again, .org!

He needed something to rhyme with 'Minnesota'...

It was either that, or "From the heart of Minnesota, here comes my purple odor"... which doesn't seem to capture the mood quite as well wink

I never even looked the word "Lavaux" up before. Thanks to the T/S. Got me wondering if he's ever been there or just saw some pics and got inspired??

I believe the Yoda reference could come from Lauryn Hill.

She referred to him as Yoda once in an interview. As in a wise figure over seeing the current crop of younger black musicians.
