Looking back on Prince's recorded output since 2000, he's been remarkably productive. While each album may not be consistently strong throughout, I'd say on the whole the quality has been very high. He'll always be known for his 80's work first and foremost - rightfully so - but I think some of the records released this past decade have been a bit overlooked and years from now will be reevaluated and appreciated.

If he were to compile a "Best Of" or "Greatest Hits" compilation from his output since 2000, what would you like to see included?

Mine would look like this - focused on the more commercial, or "Greatest Hits" aspect rather than my personal favorites... although I do like all of these songs. I kept it within 80 minutes so it could fit on 1 disc - a very tight collection.

Some very strong singles here, some classic Prince... I think a good representation of his work since the turn of the century.

Prince - Millennium (Best of the 2000s)

1. Musicology

2. Guitar

3. Dance 4 Me

4. Black Sweat

5. Future Soul Song

6. The Work, Pt. I

7. Cinnamon Girl

8. Future Baby Mama

9. Chocolate Box

10. Call My Name

11. Dreamer

12. Compassion

13. Te Amo Corazon

14. Chelsea Rodgers

15. U Make My Sun Shine

16. F.U.N.K.

I think that's a good overview of his more popular tunes since 2000. Breakdown as follows:

NPGMC (1)

TRC (1)

Musicology (3)

3121 (2)

Planet Earth (3)

Lotusflow3r (1)

MPLSound (2)

20ten (2)

Other (1)

Some key tracks left off that could also have been included, or maybe could be included on a 2nd disc for a 2-CD collection:

The Daisy Chain

Supercute

When I Lay My Hands On U

She Loves Me 4 Me

1+1+1=3

Last December

Fury

Beautiful, Loved and Blessed

Lolita

The Song of the Heart

S.S.T.

Somewhere Here on Earth

The One I Wanna C

Crimson and Clover

Colonized Mind

Better With Time

Beginning Endlessly

Act of God

Listening to 20ten, and revisiting some of the other great stuff since 2000, Prince has definitely added some worthy material to an already incredible body of work.

God, you've just made me realise that i haven't really been crazy about much that he's done in the last 10 years.. sad

That's not to say i haven't enjoyed his lps. Just that without doubt it represents a period of considerable decline in his output

Major notable exception being the 'One Nite Alone' lp which was fantastic. Wish more of the public were able to hear this.

The classic singles that spring instantly to mind are:

'Somewhere here on earth',

'Ur gonna c me' (one nite alone version),

'Pearls b4 the swine',

'Reflection',

'She loves me 4 me'

'Colonised mind'

'When i lay my hands on u'

Inspired songs that have enriched my life cool

[Edited 7/21/10 11:39am]

"London, i've adopted a name that has no pronounciation.... is that cool with you?"

"YEAH!!!"

"Yeah, well then fuck those other fools!"

I made a mix last week covering what I feel are Prince's essential songs from 2000-2010. The challenge was cutting it down 2 make it fit on an 80 min. cd. Here are my choices:

1. Magnificent

2. The Morning After

3. Dance 4 Me

4. 4Ever

5. Sticky Like Glue

6. Love

7. Cinnamon Girl

8. Lion Of Judah

9. Mellow

10. Pearls B4 The Swine

11. Act Of God

12. Lavaux

13. Walk In Sand

14. Fury

15. What Do U Want Me 2 Do (with the ending monolouge edited out)

16. She Loves Me 4 Me

17. No More Candy 4 U

18. Last December

19. Resolution

Now there were a few others that I wished I could have added, but the way I sequenced it, I feel it flows well and has the perfect blend of funk, rock, pop, and soul. I've been playing it non stop since then cool

I think a lot of us have the same idea since the release of 20TEN and I don't think he will release something new be4 the end of the year.

I also wanna add that I found this decade as good,if not better and at least more interresting

than the 90's !!! The acces 2 the internet since 2002 (the org, YT ) also plays a part in my opinion but overall I think Prince had a great decade !

3121

Lolita

Act of God

Future Soul Song

Te amo corazon

Sticky like glue

Black Sweat

A million Days

Fury

The one U wanna C

Love

The Word

Satisfied

What do U want me 2 do?

1+1+1=3

Musicology

Life O' the party

Old Skool Co.

Beginning Endlessly

She loves me 4 me

Call my name

The dance

Lavaux

Guitar

Dance 4 me

Chelsea Rodgers

The everlasting now

I guess it will be a 2-disc Le Best of wink

OK... Here I go... trying my best to be as democratic as I can...

12 tracks only (standard album)...

in no particular order...

Judas Smile

3121

The Word

The Marrying Kind - If Eye Was The Man In Ur Life*

Dance 4 Me

Colonized Mind

Boom

Planet Earth

Somewhere Here On Earth/Future Soul Song**

F.U.N.K.

Sticky Like Glue

Elixer

Notes:

- Deliberate decision not to include any tracks from The Rainbow Children as I see that as a whole work and separating the tracks just doesn't seem right.

*Always viewed these as one track.

**Take your pick. Can't separate these two gems.
