20TEN best album in 23 years

http://www.mirror.co.uk/celebs/news/2010/07/07/prince-20ten-the-first-review-this-is-his-best-album-for-23-years-says-tony-parsons-115875-22386952/

This is coming from the Mirror UK granted....just as good as Purple Rain or 1999. I'll believe that when I hear it and I doubt it based on the snippets I heard.

Oh, no...

Classic Prince. Save the world but don’t forget to get down. Musically it recalls Delirious on 1999, but this is Prince at his most socially conscious since Sign o’ the Times. Full of references to “the greedy ones” and melting polar ice caps.

Did he learn nothing from Planet Earth? barf

We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Best record since SOTT!? Really?! I just heard a sample of 3 of the songs, Compassion, Beginning Endlessly & Lavaux and while it's hard to judge much of anything in 30 seconds or so, especially by Prince, I am not sure I am hearing any SOTT greatness here.

(Sorry! I'd post a link to the samples but "hush nubbits" (you know who you are) or someone else might shut me down, scold me or threaten to pull my membership! Just Google it and you should find it.) Peace! wink

I'm still kinda mystified why is Prince going to a tabloid anyway? Isn't that what the Daily Mirror is and why are they reviewing an album? lol

I guess Prince just wants to get the attention of everyone for the purpose of saying "I'm back". lol

Note, however, when someone says "best record since X" that doesn't mean that it's better than X, only that it's better than every release that came after it.

I doubt that's true, either, though...

Do you actually think PE's real problems were the result of Prince trying to be socially conscious? lol

that review is no more reliable than if it came from Prince himself.

As a Prince fan for many, many years... I will review it myself when I get it. I don't listen to what other people here or anywhere else in the world considers "good". It is good or bad to each individual person. Just because Joe Blow on the org says it's shit doesn't mean it sounds like shit to me or anyone else. It is that one person's opinion, and as they say with opinions and assholes...... etc, etc, etc. I know no musical people here that are specialists at what is good or bad, so... judge for yourself when and if you get your own cd. smile

They need to shut the Org down for at least two weeks before and after a release.

These codependent people would lose their minds because they need someone else's affirmations for their own.

Not sure I'd consider D&P one of the great albums of all time... but he sounds pretty positive about the album.

Change it one more time..

Like someone said in the other thread, it's a ploy to announce when an artist is "back". The guy releases albums every year, it's just that outside the Prince fan clubs no one else is buying it. lol

you know with prince saying the internet is dead I wonder if there will be a renewed effort to shut down prince's presence on the internet. Not only issues of copyright but of image.

This is what strikes you in the whole review? lol I agree: as a multi millionaire he should be explaining the virtues of the trickle down theory of wealth creation.

Lotusflower was Prince's best collection of songs since the black album. The 1st disc of Lotusflower was outstanding... not sure why he would include MPLSound or that other thing with it

But hey its Prince

I agree that it was a great collection, and im not that big on the Black ALbum however, but i agree that MPLsound was one of the most overrated things ever on this site, that album made me long for New Power SOul and Rave.

After a year, I would kind of agree with u. I LOVE about 2 or 3 songs on the disc....LIKE about 2 or 3 and could do without the rest. Same for Lotus. It could have been easily a single disc with "Something U Already Know" (from Bria) as a bonus track. That's the only song I really LOVED on that cd. I liked most of them, but none of them got me going like "Something U Already Know".

The reviewer's salary is partially based on how many newspapers (and ads) are sold. Hardly an impartial review.

I hope u mean for future papers, because I'm sure the ads have been sold and the papers are already printed for this issue. lol

unlistenable? I wouldn't go that strong but it simply wasn't as strong as LotusFlower

it would have been reasonable to include Dance 4 Me, and Old Skool... maybe even Valentina... but that would have flattened the rock edge of LotusFlower and made it a completly different peice of work

honestly I'm not sure why I read this board... most of the people here are so damn nasty but I do check in to see whats going on

I'm not sure I want 20Ten to sound like 1999 or Controversy... dude is 52 freakin years old. I also would love another even record. Prince has made a career of making uneven records and it doesn't work for him any longer

Dance... Let me see you dance

What is so nasty about someone thinking an album is unlistenable?
