Plus, wasn't the baby's daddy already married or something like that?

But, Prince's reaction was hilarious!

I would have posted my opinions last night but the org was down for hours! lol I think that the tribute was alright but it should have been better. The energy wasn't as high as I thought it would be. Janelle Monae wasn't bad with Lets Go Crazy but damn her voice was shaking like a leaf on a tree on a windy day. I like when she imitated Prince's dance moves from PR, I was laughing at that. lol Espauralda (i know I spelt that wrong) Spaulding's performance of IIWYG sounded good but I was bored watching her. It was like watching paint dry. Alicia doing Adore was cool. I got nervous watching her climb on that piano with her being pregnant and all. I was like, she better not fall on live TV! lol I was feeling her performance. Patti's rendention of Purple Rain was good, not as great vocally but she had energy. I loved it when she kicked her shoes off, I was hollerin, especially when Prince caught one of them and held it in the air. Classic! falloff And Trey Songz, well, he tried. It was messy but I would like to believe that he was being genuine with his tribute to Prince. Yeah it was messy, but I give him props for acknowleging the man.

Prince's speech was great. I thought it was classy and heartfelt, like he thought about what he was going to say without trying to look for words and looking like a dear in the headlight. As for the "mistake" part, a lot of you here are going wild over this but I would not be surprised if in him saying that, it doesn't necessarily mean that he regrets the music he made like many in here think he means. Truth is, he's made some mistakes in the last 31 years. You guys talk about some of those mistakes on a daily basis. It doesn't have to be music, but just choices in his career and what he's done in certain situations. Whatever the case, we really don't know what he means by it so I take it for what it is and it doesn't bother me. He has a right to feel the way that he does. I don't know if I agree with him when he says that he has hope for the future of music cause it's looking pretty bleak right now, but I know that with Prince and El DeBarge on last night, I'm glad that these guys were around when I was a kid because they reminded me of why I love music in the first place. Maybe there will be someone who comes along in the future to show me how far music can still go but who knows? I hope that that next legend is out there. I do know that I'm happy for the legend that is living today, Prince for receiving the Lifetime Acheivement Award because he most definately deserves it. biggrin

I thought the tribute was GOOD, not great, but it was decent.

Trey Songz was a mess. Prince thanked all the performers except him in his speech, that says everything to me.

Janelle Monae I thought was okay. I like her but I thought her vocals were off, but she had good energy and I enjoyed watching her dance.

Esparanza (The chick with the afro)-I had never heard of her before last night, but I thought she was the best. Beautiful voice. Prince seemed please with her performance too from what I could tell.

Alicia Keys-She was good as always but nothing spectacular

Patti-Ms. Patti was herself as always, high screeching notes, kicking off her shoes, etc. All what i've come to expect from her. I enjoyed her doing "Purple Rain". Her kicking off her shoes and Prince holding it up in the air, haha too funny.

-Overall I thought it was a good tribute. I wish perhaps Maxwell or Earth, Wind & Fire had performed, but oh well. Prince's speech was genuine I thought and deep. He spoke very well. I only wish he had performed something. I wanted him to show everyone how it's really done!

"And When The Groove Is Dead And Gone, You Know That Love Survives, So We Can Rock Forever" RIP MJ heart

"Baby, that was much too fast"...Goodnight dear sweet Prince. I'll love you always heart

BET sucks

They were using photos/clips from Purple Rain era at the beginning and throughout the show when mentioning prince? wtf...didnt they have some current photos? good gawd, I was pissed from the start.

Good thing I DVR'd this mess so I could forward thru all the crap, tho I did stop to see CB do MJ and also El Debarge.

Alicia Keyes & Janelle were on point and honored P respectively...Patty was a little off, but she has showmanship to make up for it and her and P go back a long way. Chaka didnt really talk about him very long, but Stevie did and that was good. Overall, it was good to see him and he was feeling the love from the women doin his songs...but BET just sucks in general at award shows and P deserved a much better presentation of his career/music than what was done.

I guess Sheila E wasnt available? She woulda been a prime person to honor him.

Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

I agree about the mistakes part. No one in particular knows what mistakes he was referencing in his life, so it was easy for some to assume he was referring to some of the lyrics in his earlier music/or how he portrayed himself in the past on stage or to fans. Who knows, shrug I get the feelilng hs is a lot more content with the person he is today, moreso than in the past though.

Good point about Lena. Janelle could have actually sang one of her songs as a tribute, along with other female artists.

I thought the BET Awards show in whole was horrible. The music or hip hop that is so worshiped by a majority is really terrible. I don't see it as music at all.

In the end, I thought the tribute Lifetime Achievement to PRINCE was fantastic! Each artist did a heartfelt rendition in their own way to Prince. The most touching part was to see him tear up in a few shots as he watched the performance. Alicia Keys was AMAZING!

PRINCE was classy, humble and terrific in his speech!

I just hated the fact that I had to sit through 3 plus hours of BET/hip hop embarrassment just to see a real artist and musician...PRINCE and the talented artists that paid him tribute. Thank GOD for Debarge...other wise it would have been much worse.

Exactly. We can all sit here and express our opinions and criticisms of him all day about his past and present life and music career, but at the end of the day, none of us have or will ever have the power to tell him how to live his life. He's the only one that can make the final choices and decisions, as to what he will allow in his life, his choice of friends and personal relationships, as well as, what brings him joy and peace in his life.

Yeah. The graphics on the back of that shirt are more interesting than the artwork on the front. Nice shirt though. I like the bell-shaped sleeves.

No, im not a big fan of that shirt, but its ok. It works

I am always glad to see men not wear suits. They are not comfortable, it's become the west's version of the white robes worn in the Muslim world. Its another century already let forget about the suit already. especially the tuxedo. such corniness that thing.

The white robes do do pretty comfy tho' but not very practical.
