Actually, Ernest is correct. Back in the eighties there were plain Doritos & that is what Prince is eating in Purple Rain. They came in a yellow labeled bag.

The Doritos Prince was eating was Nacho Cheese. The bag was just made different back then and it looked like this...

The original flavor was in a blue bag (before they gave it to Ranch), trust me it was the Taco flavored ones.

Doritos are important because it hunmanized Prince. Before the rain came, Prince was emblazoned in images of rarely smiling, cool and distant, and the ultimate in enigma. It didnt even seem that he was from earth let alone eat lol. Sort of like seeing Vader at the dinner table in Empire Strikes Back where he is with Fett and Lando opens the door and they come face to face with Solo, Leia etc. Yes it was a wallop to hear and see him on moving images on celluloid, but this enigma sitting there eating fucking Doritos!!!?

I unno about Chips Ahoy cept he remembers Mork Meek like I do

It was definitely toasted corn he had in the Purple Rain scene. I know because that's all I buy because of it. And I keep a bag on my bed at all times so I can feel 'Princely'. So there.

Confession time. I was 16 when PR came out. There was that rumor, or tidbit in a story, that said Prince loved strawberry shakes. So betwen that, and the scene in PR, I used to only snack on a strawberry shake from McDonalds, and the regular corn flavored Doritos. hahahaha

You are so right! I remember this too, you must be an oldhead Prince fan like me I doubt if he eats this stuff anymore though he is all healthy and vegetarian now.
