The Ernest Experience Radio Show - Episode 05 - HITS

Coming up on the next episode of The Ernest Experience Radio Show, it's Prince! Again. But we're approaching the show in a very different way for us.

Most, but not all, DVDs have an audio commentary track from either the director, one or more of the actors, or anyone else involved directly with the film.
We decided to do the same thing for a Prince DVD. No we're not the first to do this w/ a Prince DVD, but we might be the first to do with with this DVD. We are going to do an audio commentary track for The Hits Collection DVD released in 1993. Please note: We will be skipping "Sign O The Times", and "I Would Die 4 U". "Sign O The Times" is a bit of a karaoke video. "I Would Die 4 U" is a live cut from the Purple Rain period that we will revisit later. Since the show is only one hour, and the DVD clocks at 61 minutes, deleting those two tracks will put us under the 60 minute mark - barely. With the deleting of the two tracks, our time will be roughly 51 minutes to get through the DVD nonstop.

How will we do this? When the show starts, we'll quickly explain what we just mentioned in the paragraph above. This is how we'll start together.

1) Put your DVD in your player; the DVD will auto play
2) Choose the Main Menu option
3) In the menu, you'll see "The Songs", "Subtitles and Closed Captions", and "Back To Video". Choose "The Songs"
4) When you see the first few tracks listed, choose "Peach"
5) As soon as your screen goes black hit PAUSE; your DVD's timer indicator should be at 00:00.
6) We will count down, "3, 2, 1, GO" On "GO" hit the PLAY button.

Just a reminder: The title page of "Prince - The Hits Collection" is part of the "Peach" track, so don't worry that you're too early or will be out of sync. You're right on cue that way.

For those on the air: please keep your volume turned down so your phone doesn't pick up the audio. You can leave it low enough that you can hear it, but it won't bleed into the broadcast.

When "Sign O The Times" comes up, we will just immediately tell everyone to hit the NEXT or FORWARD button on your remote. That will take us immediately do "Diamonds and Pearls". We will repeat this step when we get to "I Would Die 4 U", skipping directly from "Little Red Corvette" to "Raspberry Beret".

So the track list will be:
"Peach"
"Uptown"
"1999"
"Alphabet St."
*
"Diamonds and Pearls"
"Controversy"
"Dirty Mind"
"I Wanna Be Your Lover"
"Little Red Corvette"
*
"Raspberry Beret"
"Kiss"
"Cream"
"7"

*Incidates the skipping forward

BTW, I listened to your interview w/ Steve Parke. He's awesome. I really enjoyed his insight and his candor and his vibe. I would definitely have not expected a person who had been around the Prince camp as long as he had to be so... Positive!

Totally agree. I told Ernest during the show that he should definitely make more of that interview available. Even if it is just the two of them talking about music in general. Sometimes that's the best stuff.

I'm creating a new feature on the show called "Side Show". It'll air on random Tuesdays, and it will be for just this purpose. I am going to re-air my interview from 2002 with Monte Moir. I will also air more of the interview with Steve Parke. I pretty much aired most of the interview with Susannah and Paul. So the Parke thing will air more toward its entirety soon.

I've talked to so many folks about this show, that I've now lost track of them. So whoever I've talked to about calling in, and if you still want to be part of the commentary, just give the caller line a ring about 10 minutes before show time on Thursday (approx 8:50 p.m. Eastern).

I'm excited about this one! It'll be fast paced, and full of interesting tidbits I'm sure.

I called U yesterday, U didn't answer your phone
The main drag is knowing that U probably weren't alone
So here I sit in my lonely room lookin' 4 my sunshine
But all I've got is 2 cigarettes and this broken heart of mine
