Computer Blue

Has anyone heard thee original outtake that encomasses 14 minutes? I have the 12 minute version and have heard the original contains 3 minutes of "screeching feedback" at the track's end. Is there something I'm missing?

Yes. It's readily available.

yeah, you can get it. but no, there's not much more to it that you're missing with the 12 minute one. as far as i can remember.

In any case, there are 4 different unreleased versions of the track.

The full length Computer Blue really is a treat indeed. And as the others have mentioned, can be found quite easily, in very good quality. wink

What's the deal with this? Is there a 14 minute version with the full vocals like on the 12 minute one? I've heard two different 14 minute versions and one sounded like a run-through with the band and the other sounds like the usual one but with incomplete vocals.

Also, is it only longer because it comes from a different source-tape? It sounds like it's in a different key/the tape was running at a different speed.

There are many of the original longer takes readily available. 30 years of Unreleased Funk has a great version, and there are other mixes out there as well. So yes, we've heard it, and you should too.

humm, just had a look at princevault and it's not much clearer
a studio version was recorded at The St. Louis Park Warehouse, St. Louis Park, MN, USA, with the full Revolution, before at least three other versions were recorded at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA, with only Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman participating (during the same sessions that produced Let's Go Crazy). These versions would be edited down for the album. These versions are largely similar at the beginning and end of the song - differences are noticeable in the middle of the track.
to me I would read that as the vocal overdubs had not been completed?

Any long version of that song is worth hearing. The one on 30 Years is rawer and funkier than any other version out there. There's a totally different groove you can hear in it.

Note: Better sound on 30 Years Of Unreleased Funk boot for the 14+ minute version.
