21 Nights for $4.99

I was browsing at Border's today & there were a stack of unopened 21 Nights books in the bargain bin for $4.99. I remember when this came out I was afraid it would sell out quick, becoming an instant collectors item. Now they're practically giving them away...

They've been $5 at my local bookstore for about 6 months already. They've still got about 10 of them sitting there in their reduced bin getting all dusty. One of them is an open display version, but I think that's a deterent. Anyone who flips through that book sees instantly that it's a glorified vanity project. Maybe if they had the CD playing it would be a different story. I'm guessing someone lost their job over that order lol. I bought 5 of them to try and flog off on ebay yet hardly got a bight.

I was thinking about that. Maybe the pre-orders did not go over well. It was a bit too pricey.

Thanks for the update. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say there wasn't a big demand for that particular product and it's another dead in the water venture. Heck, if any of those iPods were actually customized ahead of time, they're obsolete now.

So true. I wonder if that was an iPod that P had custom made and thought it would be cool to sell?

Not as big as the Opus book you would need a spare room for it, it's so bloody big.

I was in a Books A Million over the weekend and saw it on "Clearance" for $20. I have a membership card with the store, so I could have gotten it for an additional 20% off, final price of $16. But, based on comments I've read here, I don't know that I should pay even $16!

Thank you so much for posting this. My CD is scratched and I wanted a new one. I called my borders and "josh" answered. He said they didn't have any. Next I called Detroit to see if some could be shipped my way. They told me that that is done through my own Borders. Called my own borders back. Sure enough Josh answered the phone. He then informs me that our borders will be getting 6 on the 23rd of march. What a bone head. Could he not have looked that up for me the first time without me calling around the country mad ? Was my Borders so busy on a Sunday am that he just didn['t have the time to put the whole information into the computer that was right infront of him?

Anyway I reserved 3 of the 6 that are coming in but I will take all 6 if they are there. I do decoupage and it would be wonderful to decoupage my old dresser with 3121 pictures. I kid you not. I am sooooo excited about this!!!

I did not intend on being such a downer! At least it isn't at the dollar store yet. I find plenty of books that were released for 24.95 listed price selling for a buck at the dollar store. It does make you hesitate when you think of paying full price again. I had gotten my original of 21 nights at Barnes and noble for a sale price of 25.00. I called them aswell on Sunday and they said that they already had all of theirs on clearance in the fall. They did not say what their asking price was.

I hadn't heard this. I'm not surprised though, since brick and mortar book stores seem to be dying right and left. I used to love Borders CD section because they had tons of listening stations and all kinds of import CDs. Then they changed their business model to only carry "Top 20" CDs and it gave me less reason to stop in.

Best Buy has started doing the same thing with their CD selection. There's no obscurities anymore, only best sellers. In fact, even the independent record stores are following this trend. It sucks.

And don't forget when Borders puts their new release CD on "sale" it is marked down from $18.99 to $13.99. I used to go to Best Buy twice a month looking for CDs, but even the super stores have ridiculously small selections. I now get almost all of my CDs from Amazon.

True. Borders and FYE have outrageous retail pricing structures on music. Almost $20(in FYE's case $22!) for a single disc? No thanks. I realize there's quite a bit more overhead for a brick and mortar store than an online seller, but they shoot themselves in the foot with sticker-shock inducing price tags. In the case of Best Buy and other retailers that have lower prices, I think they've just started giving up on their loss-leader tactics in favor of putting the music and movies in the back of the store. The problem is, for me, there's not as much of a reason to go to their establishment anymore.

I buy a lot of music directly from small labels, band websites or Amazon etc. I still prefer CD to downloads - 'cause I'm old-skool like that. 9 times out of 10, the online sellers bend over backwards to get stuff to you as quick as possible too.

Same here! I figured, hey for $16 I'm gettin' a pretty cool book and a live CD, not too shabby.
