Dirty Mind

There's something about U, baby
It happens every time
Whenever I'm around U, baby
I get a dirty mind
It doesn't matter where we are
It doesn't matter who's around
It doesn't matter
I just wanna lay U down

In my daddy's car
It's U I really wanna drive
But U never go 2 far
I may not be your kind of man
I may not be your style
But honey, all I wanna do
Is just love U 4 a little while

If U got the time
I'll give U some money
2 buy a dirty mind
Don't misunderstand me
I never fool around
But honey, U got me on my knees
Won't U please let me lay U down?
(Down, down, down, down, ...) {fade}

I really get a dirty mind (mind, mind, mind)
Whenever U're around
It happens 2 me every time (time, time, time)
U just gotta let me lay ya, gotta let me lay ya, lay ya!
U just gotta let me lay ya, gotta let me lay U down!

In my daddy's car
It's U I really wanna drive
Underneath the stars
I really get a dirty mind
Whenever U're around

I don't wanna hurt U, baby
I only wanna lay U down

well; looks like the 'Dirty Mind' era doesn't get much love sad sad sad
Too bad... It's my favorite era, cause I think this was THE time Prince wasn't giving a fuck about waht people weres aying about him, his looks, his music... he seemed so carefree back then...

This was the time he made that 180-turn, switching from the R&B/disco sounds of 'Prince' (1979) to a more punk/rock/funk sound.. AND most of all, his Purple Majesty became the hormone loaded Prince we know ('Head', 'Sister'...)...
His best era, IMO. razz
A
nd one of my 3 top albums too (along with "Parade" and "Sign O' The Times")

"Uptown", released september 10, 1980

She saw me walking down the streets of your fine city
It kinda turned me on when she looked at me and said, "Come here"
Now I don't usually talk 2 strangers, but she looked so pretty
What can I lose if I, I just give a little ear?
"What's up little girl? I ain't got time 2 play"
Baby didn't say 2 much - she said, "Are U gay?"
Kinda took me by surprise, I didn't know what 2 do
I just looked her in her eyes and I said, "No, are U?"
(Said 2 myself, said)
She's just a crazy, crazy, crazy little mixed up dame
She's just a victim of society and all its games

Now where I come from
We don't let society tell us how it's supposed 2 be
Our clothes, our hair, we don't care
It's all about being there

Everybody's going Uptown - that's where I wanna be
Uptown - set your mind free
Uptown - got my body hot
Get down - I don't wanna stop, no!

Soon as we got there
Good times were rolling
White, Black, Puerto Rican, everybody just a-freakin'
Good times were rolling
She started dancing in the streets, oh!
The girl, she's just gone mad
U know, she even made love 2 me, ooh!
The best that I ever had, oh yeah
I don't usually talk 2 strangers
This time it's alright
See, she got me hot, I couldn't stop
Good times were rolling all night, all night, yeah

Now where I come from, we don't give a damn
We do whatever we please
It ain't about no downtown, nowhere bound, narrow-minded drag
It's all about being free

Everybody's going Uptown - that's where I wanna be
Uptown - U can set your mind free, yeah
Uptown - keep your body hot
Get down - I don't wanna stop, no!

Uptown (Oh, oh yeah)
Uptown (Everybody's goin', everybody's goin', everybody gotta gotta)
Uptown (Gotta go, gotta go go go, gotta go 2)
Uptown (Oh)
Uptown (Yeah, yeah, oh no)
Uptown (Gotta go go go - baby, I gotta go, gotta go)
Uptown (Come on, come on, U, U have 2, U gotta go)
Uptown (Oh no, yeah, now baby)
Yeah!

"Uptown" was the lead single in the U.S. to Prince's third album, Dirty Mind.[1] Beginning with a lone drum intro, the track explodes into the keyboards of the chorus. The verses feature a more prominent funk guitar. The song breaks down to a more instrumental section toward the end that is mainly guitar, bass and drums with an occasional keyboard riff. The minimalist style of the song is representative of most of the Dirty Mind album. The song addresses the Uptown neighborhood of Minneapolis that is the city's hang-out spot for artists.

Prince uses the concept of Uptown to address racism and hatred in the song. Prince sings in the first person, and the song opens with him describing a chance meeting with an attractive woman who then asks him in an offensive way if he is gay. Prince then addresses the reasons for racism and sings about a place, Uptown, where racism and hatred do not exist. The song is one of Prince's earliest efforts to blend political statements into his art.
Everybody is somebody, but nobody wants to be themselves.

OH MY! LOVE THIS ERA!!!!! excited

I consider SOTT his best album, but for me this album & era is what Prince is all about:

-the wild mix of funk, glam/rock, new wave...

-the outrageous costumes, the raw (but harmless) sexual antics, the badass attitude...

-the songs! Shit, I still remember the first time I heard this album, some years ago. I FELL IN LOVE with the title-track the first time I heard it, I played it like twenty times in a row! nod excited Then came WYWM and I knew that DD was going to become one of my fav albums ever! Do it all night was just as good and Broken Heart Again is an underrated ballad for sure, gentle but bitter at the same time...
Uptown was so epic that I danced like mad and played it several times in a row as well. Then I was overwhelmed by Head , the raunchy lyrics and the synth solo cool headbang ;Sister was disturbing lol but so catchy that I played it several times as well lol ! Finally, Party Up was a kick-ass finale, and the "We don't wanna fight no more!" coda was amazing...whistle

Fuck, I LOVE THIS ALBUM, the perfect album if you want to oral or bananadance

Can't wait for more pics! foodnow

When Lisa joined the band in 1980 what do you feel her musicianship added to the lineup at that time?

Lisa brought a wonderful sense of harmony and technical prowess to the table when she joined the group. I learned a lot of cool stuff from her and I always felt Prince made an excellent choice bringing her into the group.

How did you feel when Prince made you drive Lisa everywhere when she first moved out to Minneapolis? (question courtesy of Lisa)

Dr Fink:I didn't mind it at all because we became fast friends and I really enjoyed her company.

We all know that Wendy was around the Prince camp before joining the band, what is your first memory of her?

Dr Fink: I think I first met Wendy in LA when Lisa put me up at her house to work on some videos and session work for Prince back in 81'.

Lisa
Although written alongside the Dirty Mind material, this track instead points toward 1999 with its synth-dominated texture and use of a simple drum machine, creating a hypnotic feel. Written tongue-in-cheek about new band member Lisa Coleman, the lyrics state how Prince knows Lisa is nasty and how he plans to take her away from her current man(or woman).

Lisa, let's go 2 the movie
Lisa, let's go
Lisa, let's go 2 the village
Lisa, let's go
Tell your man, he'll understand
Lisa, let's go

Lisa, we're going 2 the movie
Lisa, let's go

It's alright, I don't care
Long as U know, somewhere
Some day, we'll be 2gether
Lisa, I don't care, oh
Lisa, I don't care

Lisa, let's go get blasted
Lisa, let's go
Lisa, I know U're nasty
Lisa, let's go

It's alright, it's OK
Long as U know, some day
Some way, we'll be 2gether
Lisa, it's OK

Yeah, let's go, yeah
Lisa, oh yeah
Yeah, yeah

It's alright, it's OK
Lisa, let's play

Alright

Are U ready, yeah yeah?
Yeah, oh yeah
Yeah yeah
Let's go {x2}

It's alright, it's OK
Long as U know, some day
Some way, we'll be 2gether
Lisa, it's OK, oh {x3}
Lisa, it's O... it's O... it's OK
