Funeral song

Hi

A friend of mine passed away last week and his wife knew he was a huge Prince fan and asked me what song I would suggest at the end of his funeral-I'm completely stuck. What would any of you choose

Thanks

The Love We Make..would also be good

Everybody wants salvation of the soul

Why would you want a song that says "put down the needle, put down the spoon" in a funeral song?

I say go with an instrumental like "Venus De Milo". It's solemn and is a bit brighter, and not quite so downbeat like a funeral song tends to be. Also, "Alexa De Paris" would be good. "Free" could be another.

"Sometimes It Snows In April" is very pointed at death. Despite it being a funeral, the person was a Prince fan, and the song should partly celebrate that fact, while adding a coda to the ceremony in general.

Madhouse "8" would be nice for a song while people walk by the casket. You could group the other two instrumentals above with it.

And the obvious "I Wish U Heaven".

Comeback - absolutely and without question.

If you have friends who are singers, it would be amazing sung live. The harmonies are beautiful.

My condolences about your friend.

I would say "Into the light"

It's a mixture of emotion, happiness, freedom, sadness and release.
Might be a bit too heavy in some parts or at the end but maybe some editing?

But particularly for the lyrics.

"as sure as a candle burns....every soul must return into the light."

But actually on second thoughts, I will - is a softer song overall but the lyrics are not specific.

There are a ton of instrumentals that would be fantastic. A lot of lyrical stuff ("Sometimes It Snows..") are much too personal/specific, y'know?

I agree. Unless there was a different mix of some things, a lot of those songs are really specific to a character or whatever. "Comeback" is general enough that it could work, as would "Goodbye" perhaps. But unless the person's name is "Tracy", and they had a tumultuous life, "April" might not fully work or be appreciated.

Besides, the person was a Prince fan, so there has to be a good middle of the road song that is somber enough for the situation, but still fits the idea of them being a Prince fan.

Ladies and gentlemen: The soulless have spoken.

we sent my dad off with the club song to his favourite football team..everyone laughed, as dad would have wanted...it broke up a very sombre mood, which he wouldnt have.

maybe not quite the right song choices, but i see where he is going.

I like the idea of Vanstrass "the Ladder" for the end...and "sometimes it snows in april" in the middle of the service...while they are having the reflection part.

sorry for your loss jcurley rose hug
