He was giving a nod to that era, even his look in the Raspberry Beret video was a nod to the 60's Beatles look But I do agree that it's not all that 'classically' psychedelic, Prince does what he does and took tidbits of that music genre and made the album. Paisley Park is probably the only song that has that touch. Does it bother you when people say you're going back in time with 'Around the World in a Day'? No. What they say is that the Beatles are the influence. The influence wasn't the Beatles. They were great for what they did, but I don't know how that would hang today. The cover art came about because I thought people were tired of looking at me. Who wants another picture of him? I would only want so many pictures of my woman, then I would want the real thing. What would be a little more happening than just another picture [laughs] would be if there was some way I could materialize in people's cribs when they play the record. How do you feel about people calling the record "psychedelic"? I don't mind that, because that was the only period in recent history that delivered songs and colors. I totally agree, I love the music, love this whole project. People connect it with Parade, but this album is more connected with Purple Rain Not until these 2 albums do we see/hear a conflict of Spirituality & Sexuality but at the same time a more obvious connection between Spirituality & Sexuality But over all not until Lovesexy does he make it more obvious God the Dance Electric and Tempation somehow are connected [Edited 5/20/10 18:28pm] | |

ATWIAD had a lot of Linn usage that we don't hear on Parade, and a lot more electric guitar that is mostly absent from Parade except for AnotherLover... & Alexa De Paris (which by the way does resemble God the Love theme) I know he had a big push to put out UTCM, but the movie PR was still so popular and large, he wouldn't need to put another out that quickly, and he could have take the time to make sure the movie and accompanying album were just right. In terms of music, Parade is a different album from Around The World In A Day and they're not similar. They're Apples and Oranges hands down. The only album that can be connected 2 Parade is the unreleased Dream Factory project. Purple Rain was such a strong movement that he still have ran with it in so many ways. Like u was saying, he didn't need 2 put out Under The Cherry Moon nor Parade at that time bcuz of Purple Rain and plus the Around The World album was still fresh out. | |
