Suggestion - for the next Prince online venture

How about a collective agreement to not buy anything direct from Prince again until he actually shows us what's for sale?

You know, kinda like they do in ... stores.

wasnt there some sort of fiasco with crystal ball?

i wish someone from princes camp would come here (or another forum) and ask what the fans would like to see from an on line store.

1-800-NF had its problems, but at least you could see what you were buying...

I still think the tried and tested open fan site with a pay-per-view/download/buy premium section would be a hell of a lot easier, better and have less chance of being moaned about... Probably!

Yup, somehow they managed to botch even that. If I remember correctly, Crystal Ball pre-orders were taken and then they pressed the CD's. Most received them, some didn't, and some (like me) weren't charged and didn't receive. And then PrinceNation went ballastic when the darn thing appeared in stores anyways, at a drastically lower price (albeit without Kamasutra CD). I ended up buying a copy at a retail store because I didn't know if 1800Newfunk would come through or not. I remember that others had a terrible time with it.

i wish someone from princes camp would come here (or another forum) and ask what the fans would like to see from an on line store.

I'd like to see a list of songs in lossless quality. FLAC or WAV. Prices beside them. Links to add to a shopping cart, and then a checkout button.

No ridiculous interfaces. No "experiences."

Music for money, pure and simple.

I'm thinking there probably won't be another online presence.

The internet is a black hole.

I have a suggestion, too.

Don't.

How about folks look at his internet history, and his retail follow up, and think ahead?

Prince had a fan meeting at his house early in 2009 with the web designers and administrators present, showing fans the website, and what was to come. People bought into it, literally, and oddly they never mentioned what has been happening in the past week.

As far as the music - there's always a way to hear it before you buy it.

Yes, as Genesia pointed out, I was referencing what Prince had said, and he said this during the Lotusflow3r.com run.

I tend 2 agree with him, as I feel that 2 many opinions R stated as fact. The internet is responsible 4 as much misinformation as it is 4 access 2 information.

Also, I feel as though folks have been damning Prince's sites as a whole, and I thought that the NPCMC was magnificent, especially during the era where U toured the big mansion, going from room 2 room.

He truly provided quite a bit back then.

It was a ton of material. I downloaded it all and it is a small library of music and videos. When I got into the front row of an aftershow for free which got my pic in the booklet of the One Nite Alone box set, NPGMC was more than a great deal.

Simple...pay as you download. Put up new songs, videos etc and let people pay for what they want. There is no good reason why people should be asked to pay upfront when there is no guarantee what they are paying for. To continue to do so asks questions of motives behind the projects

Okay my idea: he makes a web site and he charges to use it for one year. He says we will get access to all kinds of exclusive material. At first he puts out a bunch of samples of new songs. Except he releases even more exclusive full length material to other free web sites.

Then he releases a song about how we are all too greedy and negitive and tells us we are not going to get any more stuff off the internet. Then once the number of new subscriptions falls they stop doing anything at all with the web site. BUT he sets up an automatic renewal at the end of the year.

Prince would say: take the 2 parts of the world 'reality' We have 'REAL' and 'Alley' Real means "truth" and ALLEY is that which comes between or separates. So reality is that which comes between US and the TRUTH.

you know you could do that with ANY song. They should make a web site that sells songs directly to people for a small price.

Thanks for answering Giovanni. This is my first on line experience with Prince, and I chose to join knowing things, both positive and negative, regarding his past ventures. It's on me and I can say I was hopeful, but wary.

I don't know what path he'll choose now, and I don't recall him making the internet comment, but I believe you and Genesia. Happiness means different things to different people and I hope Prince finds his; perhaps he already has. I feel that when the last song is written and the lights go down for the final time, if he knows that his legacy will stand all time because the good memories and deeds left behind outweigh the bad, he'll be just fine. I want that for Prince with all my heart. peace and heart Sandra

I say get over his run in with WB swallow his pride (there was nothing wrong or slave like about the contract he signed) and make nice with WB and put all his songs up for direct down load. EVERYTHING. All the mixes all the side projects everything, AND tons of the unreleased stuff and videos and well everything.

make the site part free part paid (like NPGMC).

Agreed. As long as you don't have to pay just to access a site, which he did also ($25 just to get in). Just let people enjoy what you've created, and let them buy what you have available.

I think he should charge about $77. And have classic videos such as kiss available to watch. Also, after a year it should close with no announcement, and have a plain black homepage.

I don't think he will ever do it.

But the only way to make something work is to have his own itunes store.
