Great track, though like many of his songs it has that one-note-chorus melody, which, to me prevents it from being as great a song outside of the context of the specific recording of it.

He pulls it off really well though, and it's definitely one of my favorites on that record.

Again that song should have been released as a single with a video.

Amazing. I just put my Ipod on shuffle and this was the first Prince track to show up and because it's a favorite, I'm listening to it now. I was almost going to start a thread. I love those horns! This one is very funky!

I agree. Easily the highlight of the last....Hmmmm.....It's been a while since he did an album this good, for sure.

It's just so hypnotic. I love it. My favorite song on 1 of my favorite albums of his. That and the per4mance from the ALMA Awards kicked ass!

one of Prince's most inspirational tracks in the last few years

My absolute favorite from 3121, and in my all-time top 20 Prince tracks.

Co-Sign. I honestly think people on this board are down on this CD because it was really P in RnB mode and I really thing their are a lot of people that hate RnB music these days or at least they hate P's RnB.

Eaxctly! Just like they hated on F.B.M, from Planet Earth
so much. They always want Prince to do Pop & Rock songs instead. They forget that Prince is black and his roots are R&B

I don't love the song and I don't hate it. For me it is just an average Prince song.

F.B.M. has nothing on The Word. That's hardly an argument.

I really dig this track & like many others I'm not really feeling all the lyrics(I don't like the 'Let's go get saved' part. That's too much for me) but it's a great tune indeed & I agree it's a definite stand out track. Love the acoustic guitar in the beginning & the solo @ the end.

Quite possibly the best track on that album! Everything about this track exudes classic. I just love the percussion break at the end too much, inspired and inspiring biggrin

Its simplilistic nature makes it great. Think of this gem compared to the bombastic Planet earth.

The argument is that some orgers dislike RnB music.
