Max's does have a nice voice. His natural singing voice is better than Prince's IMO.(so is D'angelo's and Eric Benet's)

Max also has a nice falsetto but let's not get it twisted Prince's falsetto is nothing to f**k around with.

Prince I'd have to say is alot more veritile than Max vocally.

It is subjective, and you cant go wrong with a brotha like Maxwell. I think Prince has the more identifiable trademark vocals, and truthfully some of those were rips from Hendrix, Sly and Smokey. I love hearing prince at any range and being biased i have to give it to Prince-but not to the detriment of a talent like Max. Hell, Prince's appeal is that of a complete artist- that is where everybody else pales in comparison. I think theres a lot of people that do specific things better but if you flip it he can do 4 or 5 things better than the people we compare him to.

I totally agree - Also FYI Nobody can touch prince vocally.. sorry

At this point, Maxwell IS a better vocalist than Prince.

Ye and I suppose Madge can sing live 2! U are one funny cat.

Maxwell has an amazing voice, but I can't say he's better than Prince. I love Maxwell's music and his latest cd is amazing. His voice is beautiful on many songs, but so is Prince's. When I saw Prince sing "Somewhere here in earth" on Jay Leno last year, I almost cried. I've watched that performance many times since. Having said that, seeing Maxwell do the Al Green tribute on the BET awards a couple if years ago had the same affect on me. Both are great singers and we should just enjoy both of them and give both the credit they deserve.

I've always thought P held his own when it comes to singing and there are a few male singers I've heard in the genre of Pop/R&B that have better tone and sound to their voices. Maxwell is in his own league, let's say that ...

Sad but true. Prince's falsetto still has its classic moments, but for the most part, it isnt what it used to be. Prince can be a great vocalist, when he really tries, but its been many years since he has really poured his heart and soul into his vocals.
Listen to The Ladder, Purple Rain(album version), do me baby, international lover.. His vocals were dead on! Now, its like he doesnt put the effort into it like he used to. Or maybe his vocal chords have taken a beating from 30 years of screaming..lol.
Anyway, he is still a great singer, but Maxwell is what Prince USED to be.

I agree...totally! "Somewhere Here On Earth,"
as you referenced above, and "Little Red Corvette."
Those were last year's stellar performances that
powerfully raised the bar to a dynamic new level
and unequivocally set the standard that I am sure
every artist, Maxwell included, has taken
serious note of woot! batting eyes

And further confirmed after seeing them both live last year.
Maxwell once at the AAA in Miami, rockin' with him when he
ripped his pants to 'Til The Cops Come Knocking biggrin
That was dynamite giggle
And at Madison Square Garden in New York; another
superb session. No, no pants ripping that time.
That was pure, good musical behavior nod

And Prince at Paisley Park biggrin
Don't you all just want to know lol?
It was surreal mushy touched
I think without any introduction, his heart told him
everything he needed to know rolleyes It was a moment
of spiritual recognition fro highfive batting eyes
A superbly tight, spirited performance, further highlighted
most notably by Larry and Shelby, made for another
stellar slammin' event! headbang boogie worship

Having seen Maxwell late last year in Birmingham here in the UK I have to say his tenor was superb but falsetto not so great. certainly Prince's overall vocal performances at the O2 in '07 were better.

I think a lot of that was to do with the amount of shows Maxwell played last year but he seemed to struggle with the high notes on the Jools Holland show here in the UK and at the Grammys too.

Maxwell is a better singer, yes. But Prince has better music. It's kind of like Josh Groban, great voice but doesn't really have that wow effect on me because I find his (along with Maxwell's) music boring. Not saying their bad, just not something I can get into.

Prince's voice is amazingly deep in I Love U In Me & There Is Lonely
I think Prince is more versatile with his voice but Maxwell can sing, he's the only one who has anything on Prince's falsetto

Personally,I like both Prince and Maxwell. They are both very talented male vocalist and sound a lot better than the ones on the radio these days! Maxwell may technically have a greater range but Prince to me like how Janis Joplin was in that she sung from the heart and did not care so much about being technically perfect. smile

Maxwell has a wonderful voice and is one of my favorite vocalists but Prince can use his voice so many different ways and in so many different styles and still sound soulful. Can you imagine Maxwell singing "I could never take the place of your man". There are times where Maxwell's voice can sound strained as in his "live" performances of"Fistful of Tears", and contrary to popular belief I have seen him skip some high notes in live performances. Great singer but for versatility and consistent live performances give me Prince everytime.

In addition sometimes we hear what we want to hear to support an argument against Prince simply because he can be such a jerk sometimes. However, it does not mean he "still" isn't a great singer. His performance on Leno of "Somewhere Here on Earth" was just amazingly effortless for a singer his age. You can't fake that. There were no background singers and backing tracks to cover up anything. What I look for in vocalists is the ease and professionalism with which they bring their art to me. A subtle note here, an inflection here or there. I want to hear how ridiculous he would be if "all" he concentrated on was "singing".
