Song You've Gone From Hating to Loving?

Lately, I've have been listening to "Diamonds and Pearls" non stop in my car.

One song I especially hated was "Live 4 Love."

The whole plane thing and the rapping and the words. Eccchhh.

Then, for some reason, I've started to get into the CD like never before; maybe because it's so positive at a time when I need it, I've been, at first, begrundgingly, listened to "Live 4 Love." Better but still corny.

But, damn lately it's magic got into me and I finally understand why he was so big on live4love. The guitar, everything. Lately it's been on repeat a lot.

And that guitar solo currently ranks as my favorite.

Everything just dig it now like never before.

Y'all?

For me, it was actually the whole Diamonds and Pearls album. I fell out of touch w/ Prince around 1991, and D&P just flew over my head. I VERY slowly got into the album. A few weeks ago when I finally edited Tony M. out of the 4 or 5 songs he's "featured" on, the album took on a whole new vibe to me. Those songs, without the last-minute-add-on-raps is like a whole new world for me on an album that I only partially liked.

Also, I didn't like "Girl" early on, but eventually loved it.

Many of them: Dance 4 Me, I Would Die 4 U (now I think it's one of his best songs), Love, Girls And Boys..with the artist who has so many songs in his catalogue it's very easy to dislike some of his songs and then suddenly see them in a different light.

Peach JUST clicked for me, today.

There's a bunch of others but I can't think about them right now.

Actually, It or Hot Thing. I wouldn't say I ever hated them, but it took me a long time to actually get into them.

PS I've only been really listening to Prince since 04, so my choices may be a little different than the old skool fans. Dig?

Now I think the song is ok.... I can appreciate it now. 7/10

Musicology the title song,

At first I didn't liked it at all, now it's maybe his best song in the 2000's imo. 9/10

Dead On It I really love this song today 8 or 9/10

Positivity a 10/10 song now.

Housequake a 10/10 song, It brilliant song 9/10, I did not like these at first.

Life Can Be So Nice was too "noicy" at first, now I love it.

Emancipation the whole album was hard to like at first, I love it now 8/10

HERE is a song that took a long time for me to like it. The weird sounds at the beginning and I felt it was overdone. Now,i really enjoy it.

HOW COME U DONT CALL ME ANYMORE-i didnt like this at first cuz i was about 7 when i heard it and it sounded so old fashioned cuz of the piano. Another reason why is my dad,he would have to wake up 4 school and instead of just callin my name. He would play the song on my stereo real loud. That would be how I would wake up. Thats one of his favorite songs. But now I enjoy it.

I always loved that. I think I always liked when normally R&B based artists do a rock song. "Free Your Mind" from En Vogue, "Black Cat" from Janet Jackson, "Peach" from Prince (or "Endorphinmachine", and "Let's Go Crazy"), etc.

But I was just too lazy skip it on a few occasions, and it grew on me. Now I love it.

Okay a couple of these are stunning... but I guess that's the fun of the game.
I usually don't "hate" Prince's songs. My ear doesn't have the aversions some do (anti-rap, anti-this or that filtering into "pure Prince").

One song that recently went from flatline to 'hmmm...i kinda dig it" was 'The Dance'. "Condition of the Heart" is one I didn't care much for and now definitely have love for.

It has a hot chorus, "slow and slippery, groovy, if we bathe in each other's hips, in other words get close enough to kiss," but it took me forever to get past the stupid rapping parts that he does.

There are alot of songs that my initial reaction was "WTF!", but over time grown to love. I used to dislike the entire COME album, and yet just this year, every song has grown on me... I listen to it constantly, and even rank it up with my favorites. batting eyes

The whole Symbol album, I didn't really like until last year, and then it just grew on me. I realised what he was trying to do with this project and I think it worked, its funky, challenging, but ultimately rewarding, slick pop and dance, creamy ballads and the incredible 3 chains o gold.

How funny, I thought I was the only one that some of Prince's song needed to grow on:) Cream is the "newest" song that I've grown to love. Anyone see him perform an acoustic of that song? It was really funny, he's a very funny guy! smile

Believe it or not, I heard Peach for the first time only a few months ago when I found a copy of The Hits/The B-Sides CD that was stuck away in a closet for some time (I fell out of contact with Prince's music for years). First time I heard it I was like HELL.....YEAH.....Love that song.

diamonds and pearls the song was too pop for me at first same with thieves in the temple but prince won me over on both they are too great

the whole graphitti bridge record really did a flip flop for me at one point
especially round and round, elephants and the question of u

can we broaden this topic to include whole records and also the flip side

which records did u love at first but now cant stand ... for me its the gold experience .. loved it for a long time

didnt like lovesexy then loved it now i just really hate the keyboards all over it .. seems like decent music but the sounds just annoy me too much

batman grew on me expecially vicki waiting and lemon crush, trust scandelous

do u lie i love now
and while i never hated life can be so nice i agree it sounded like a mess at first but now its one of my favs same with christopher tracys parade

I am ashamed to admit this, but when I first heard "If I Was Your Girlfriend," I didn't like it at all. I was twelve at the time, but that's no excuse. Because of that song, I actually didn't even get the Sign "O" The Times album until the next year.

We live, we learn.

Now I love it and recognize it as one of the more amazing things he ever created. I bet on rainy days, when she's in kind of a sad mood, Susannah sometimes listens to that song and, even though there may still be pain there, she thinks "I caused this song" and maybe smiles a wild smile.
Once upon a time in a haystack of despair; happiness sometimes hard to find, yeah.
