I'm making 12" mix compilations

...And I want to include 1-2 bonus unreleased tracks per disc. Each CD is album specific, so what two songs from the Sign O The Times Era should go on that disc, and so on?

Ideas? biggrin

You're asking for two singles and two b-sides from SOTT for your compilation?

I would think the best choices are obviously:

A side:
Hot Thing (Remix)
7 Minutes Mo'Quake

(Yes those two are remixes and technically b-sides, but they ARE, more simply, remixed album tracks, opposed to an unheard song like a real B-side is w/ Prince.)

B-side:
Shockadelica
La La La, He He Hee

UGTL had a decent extended mix, but ICNTTPOYM has nothing new to offer, nor does IIWYG.

But in the end, put what you like on it.

I mean that I want to put a bonus track that is an unreleased song from the vaults onto the disc with the mixes (sorry, I wasn't too clear on that). So it's basically what the "best" unreleased track from each album/era is that would go on the disc.

BTW, "La La La" is one of my faves!

I think that was what pissed me off about buying the "If I was you girlfriend" 12" back in 87", on the back it said "extended version" imgaine how mad I was when I brought it home to find it was only the album version. mad

You should edit your original post to reflect your intentions.

You could put the W&L version of "Strange Relationship" on there, or "It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night" from the Paris show (it's an audience recording, but is the original recording of the song before all the overdubs).

But if you want something that's not out, try "Last Heart" or "The Sex of It" (which is a live rehearsal - use the last take - on one of the SOTT rehearsal boots). There's also "Good Love". Most of the stuff during that time has come out at some point, either by him or by someone else. Even the whole Camille album has been released in some fashion, officially.

Well, since Sign O The Times consisted of songs from 1982 to 1987, that's a mighty big era. Might I suggest a couple of cuts from the Sign O The Times film? Forever In My Life is longer and an incredible performance. You could also include Now's The Time as well.

I'd be interested in seeing the track listing. What are you gonna do with albums like "Prince" that only have one extended song?

Good question - I was thinking of including Single Edits as well (i.e. "Wanna B Ur Lover") as well as several outtakes with discs like that. Otherwise, I'd just group the first 2-3 albums together as one compilation, but I'd rather have it separated for each era.

That's not true ..... check your information .. SOTT is sort of a compilation of 3 abandoned Prince 1986 projects, Dream Factory, Crystal Ball and Camille.

The only song that might be earlier is Strange Relationship from 1981. All other songs from SOTT are from 1986 sessions

Uhhh... I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man was first recorded in Prince's home studio in 1982. Feel free to fill in the blanks until the last album recording in 1987.

OK, so we have 2 songs from 1981/1982. All others are from 1986

Please read this carefully:

Sign O The Times consisted of songs from 1982 to 1987

I didn't give my information in attempt to mislead or confuse. My statement was about the content of the Sign O The Times album and it's near decade long journey of included material, not the actual final recordings that made it to the LP. Yes, we can add 1981 to that journey.

Yes, late summer of 1982. It was greatly revamped, and extended, in 1986.
