Do u think Prince supports Alex Hahns book?

I honestly doubt it. Folks that is important!

Addressing the issue of journalism and ethics. A "good" journalist would seek the approval of their subject for continuity and depth. To seek "TRUE" substance. To be accurate. "The Rise and Fall" title in and of itself is inaccurate. Prince is 44 and still has an overflowing fanbase worldwide. He was just on Leno. He keeps pumping out music... where is the "Fall"? Kurt Cobain, now theres a fall.

The title alone leaves me appalled. It is a very poor choice of words to describe Prince at this time in his life. It is EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE! For that reason alone, I question the credibility of Mr. Alex Hahn and his judgments.

My opinion is that Prince does not support this. As a matter of fact I would venture out to say he's probably hurt by it. He certainly won't get anything out of it. I don't see such a title helping his career much...

The title of the book is an unfortunate choice of words. However, we haven't even seen the contents of the book yet, so it's impossible to know whether its a worthwhile effort or not.

There are many books that are written without the cooperation of the book's subject. If authors all had to seek the blessing and permission of their subjects, half the books that are written would never see the light of day.

Prince chose to earn his living in the public eye. Having your private life exposed is part of the price of fame. In exchange for fame, adulation, and riches, the person loses his/her privacy. That is the choice that Prince made. He could have pursued his music career by becoming a music teacher, but he sought the fame and adulation.

you need to READ the book before you judge it.

and you assume that prince doesn't agree, you don't know that for sure either.

Lastly you are appalled by the title, because it is somehow extremely inappropiate. Prince has had a carreeer of 25 years already. in the 80's it rose, in the 90's it fell... there you have it.

I find the overreaction you continue to show extremely inapropiate, especially when you haven't read one letter first.
You are not my "friend" because you threaten my security.

A 'good' journalist is often unable to secure or refused approval. It doesn't mean that their work is unethical or not good journalism - it simply means that their work is unapproved by the subject. As regards, 'TRUE' substance, and accuracy, journalists can often unearth the truth and provide more accuracy without need for approval or corroboration from the subject.
"The Rise and Fall" title in and of itself is inaccurate.
How do you know? Have you already read the book and judged whether the title reflects the content of the book?
Prince is 44 and still has an overflowing fanbase worldwide. He was just on Leno. He keeps pumping out music... where is the "Fall"?
I guess you'll have to read the book to find out how the author argues the title. Instead you are simply judging the book purely by its cover.
Kurt Cobain, now theres a fall.
Berry, to follow your own argument - I trust you have Cobain's estate's approval to make such a comment - given that is the way you judge good journalism?
The title alone leaves me appalled. It is a very poor choice of words to describe Prince at this time in his life. It is EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE! For that reason alone, I question the credibility of Mr. Alex Hahn and his judgments.
So he's chosen a bad title. It appalls you!!! It's EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE. But you have no idea why he has chosen the title - because you haven't read the book to judge whether the title is appropriate or not - in the context of the work.
My opinion is that Prince does not support this. As a matter of fact I would venture out to say he's probably hurt by it. He certainly won't get anything out of it.
It's a book written by a jounalist about a well-known musician, and for which Prince has provided no support. Of course Prince does not support it. But he can hardly expect anything from it.
I don't see such a title helping his career much...
Providing a title to a book deliberately to help someone's career is usually reserved for a hagiography.

that's complete and utter bullshit. a good journalist would NOT seek the approval of their subject. the journalist's job is to report the facts objectively. feeling the need to get the approval of your subject may bias your reporting and possibly cause you to make factual compromises in trying to paint the subject in a good light to seek seek that approval and its rewards. what exactly do you know about journalism? and who said that a celebrity bio was journalism in the first place?

The title alone leaves me appalled.

drama queen.

It is a very poor choice of words to describe Prince at this time in his life.

not really. he hasn't had a gold record in 7 years. it's over.

It is EXTREMELY INAPPROPRIATE! For that reason alone, I question the credibility of Mr. Alex Hahn and his judgments.

that's because you're a brainstem and are always sucking on Prince's balls around here and in person, hoping he'll throw you a few crumbs of positive attention.

My opinion is that Prince does not support this.

considering he takes legal action against fans on the web who step out of line, and tried to shut down the websites who wouldn't join his brainwashed "collective", you're really going out on a limb in making that assumption aren't you?

As a matter of fact I would venture out to say he's probably hurt by it.

don't project.

"jounalism" as you've inappropriately labeled this effort isn't in the business of helping anyone's career. it's in the business of reporting what is known and finding out what isn't. whether the facts pain its subject in a positive, negative (or hopefully neutral) light, is really the subject's fault and problem.

Actually, I did comment "intelligently." In fact, I schooled your ass on journalism. Now if it's my tone you didn't care for, that's another matter. And if so, tough tits. Now, go and learn the proper terms for whatever it is you're describing (for example, your definition of "journalism" is very broad).

Is this not what a forum is for? Exchanging ideas?

Yes. You came to the table with a stupid idea and I exchanged it for a better one.

I have been very open to rhetoric and feel thatI can open myself up and learn from others.

I certainly hope so. You've got a lot to learn, obviously. So go learn everything I just taught you and follow through on "opening yourself up and learning from others."

I'm sorry, but insults r empty just like the source.

Berry,I really don't think Prince is the least bit concerned about this book, and I don't think he's "hurt" by it at all.He is a world-known celebrity, and by now,he certainly knows the price of fame.Being famous means that people are always gonna write things about you, whether it's positive or negative. It's all part of the territory. And,truth be told,Alex (or any other author) does not need Prince's support or approval.

As for the book's title...there is no denying that Prince, like every other music artist, has experienced many "falls" during his long career. He has had flop records, flop movies,a shrinking fanbase,a divorce, the entire name change/slave fiasco, and many more disappointments. But,by titling the book "The Rise and Fall Of Prince",I don't think Alex is trying to imply that Prince WAS great, but is now just a talentless,crack-smoking has-been with no fans or money left...lol...

Davideye, I hear what ur saying. However I still don't agree. "Possession" is a negative word and so is "fall" in the context to which they r being used.

I just cannot find a rational reason for this person to write a book about Prince and intimate details of his life. Alex himself has proclaimed himself a fan.

We have seen this many times over where people publish books about people when they shouldn't. This issue came to the forefront when Princess Diana was killed.

Where are the ethical boundries in journalism???

DavidEye Nailed it.Prince like any other Major Artist has had Ups&downs.Everybody has a Fan that wants too know all the details.I think the Cat is a probably a Big Fan but He is also being Objective on the Subject matter.turth is:Selling Prince from 78-88 is Easy alot of Interesting things.the Guy was Rolling&whatnot but How you tie 89-now will truly be interesting IMHO.as DavidEye put it so well:don't even trip because aside from Casual Fan,Die-Hards,etc.. the rest of the World doesn't even Care.I think it's cool that a Cat would Write a Book on Prince.I mean lets be real:Prince never really says a Damn thing in his Interviews overall IMHO.He still is stuck in the 80's that way with the Cat&Mouse Game of the Mystery Aura thing.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see it that way. I just don't know where anyone gets the right to make such a decision about another... I see this as a respect issue.
ok work with me now:the Movie "Purple Rain" Prince didn't write the Script but supplied Ideas. He told the writer of the Film that the Man understood Him really well.now if Prince had have not allowed another person's Imput would that story have even made you think&wonder especially during that time period no matter what you think of the film?? Another Set of Eyes&Ears never hurts the situation.
