I think he was a little bit into the occult back in the days (1999 cover is definitely not normal). But today? I don't think so.

I think he has a good understanding of the 'occult', notably in 'One Song' where he talks about us being under a 'spell' which creates our illusion.

Anyway 'occult' simply means 'hidden' and is nothing to worry about, it is just more obscure/advanced teaching which the masses wouldn't understand anyway.
One reason why this teaching was hidden in the past was to hide it from the Church who were reknown for murdering or torturing so-called heretics who didn't adhere to the narrow dogmatic viewpoint of the church.

This topic is up there with "Is Prince gay?" and "Where do bootlegs come from?" in terms of being discussed over and over again here. Someone always brings up that a 9 is just a 6 upside down, so 1999 just has to be a reference to 666. It just has to.

And more stuff like that.

Personally, I don't think he's any more into the occult than the average person, especially the average person who has strong religious beliefs of any kind.

Are you serious with this nonsense? You think a song about "Others Here With Us" is about the occult?

Do your homework, read a dictionary.

This thread needs a lock, and FAST.

"not normal" doesn't equate with "occult". Prince has never been normal.
1999's cover it just artwork, and no more satanic than "Gett Off"'s cover. I'm surprised people haven't dug into the cover of Sign O The Times to find some faux trinket of propaganda in it.

It's amazing to me that no one has ever raised a stink about the pyramids on prince. I had Christian friends that were in a fuss over the prince symbol, saying it was satanic. It was just utter nonsense.

The original poster would get off on this: http://fundamentalbaptist...Prince.htm

It's easy for us old timers to roll our eyes at such threads but to newbs or the general public, these ARE the most interesting threads. Depressing I know, but that's the way of the world. 'Prince shelves album' isn't as headline grabbing as 'Prince has ribs removed' to Joe Public.

Maybe we could have a sticky thread called 'Is Prince Gay/a Satanist/a JW/dead/bald/in need of new hips/ribs/wife' and just answer them all in one post smile

no he doesn't worship Satan. Probably best if you don't listen to 'Posessed' to closely though smile

It's probably best if they just grab an old Amy Grant album and stick to that. I recommend Age To Age. It's a great album, and won't cause future threads like this one.

Not sure what makes that song "occult"; But even so, one song out of several thousand doesn't really present a strong case - that's like asking if Prince has a dinosaur fetish because of "Dinner With Dolores"

is that what we do from now on? Someone asks a question and you distract them with a safe Easy listening album? I like it!

'what's Prince's real name?'

'Good question, tell me... Have you ever listened to the Carpenters?'
