(Throw back) "In this bed I scream"

So I decided I was gonna take a visit back to listening to the Emancipation CD today. IT had been a couple of long months since I had listened to it all the way through. I really decided that I truly love this album. What really got me loving it is When i heard "In this bed I scream" Just the way it has such a upbeat vibe with his (Falsetto) tone just put me in a better mood I haven't seen many people mention this song when talking about the album. So for all of you out there what do you think (any love)for this awesome song? This song to me gives you hope (when ever your experiencing rockiness in a relationship)

LYRICS: "In this bed I scream

2 these walls I talk
Tellin' 'em what I wasn't strong enough 2 say
2 these walls I talk
Tellin' 'em how I cried the day U went away

How do we ever lose communication?
How do we ever lose each other's sound?
Baby, if U wanna, we can fix the situation
Maybe we can stop the rain from coming down

Yeah

In this bed I scream
Lonely nights I lay awake thinking of U
And if I'm cursed with a dream
A thousand times I feel whatever I've put U through

Tell me, how're we gonna put this back 2gether?
How're we gonna think with the same mind?
Knowing all along that life is so much better
Living and loving 2gether all the time

Living and loving

In this bed I, in this bed I, in this bed I scream

In this car I drive
I'm looking 4 the road that leads back 2 the soul we shared
With my very life
I'd gladly be the body upon the cross we bear (Cross we bear)

How do we ever lose communication? (How did we?)
How do we ever lose each other's sound? (I don't know)
Baby, if U wanna, we can fix the situation
Maybe we can stop the rain from coming down

Maybe we can't, maybe we can
Stop the rain, stop the rain

In this bed I, in this bed I, in this bed I scream
I scream

In this bed I scream

I have wanted to really love this song for years. I do love the lyrics and what is expressed. Plus I feel there is a great pop song in there somewhere...But one thing I still don't "get" is the scratching. If it were up to me, I would have arranged the song differently, (use different instruments, maybe?).. something to allow the melody and hook to have more impact. The way it is now, the hook gets lost in the arrangement and "busyness" of the scratching and effects.
But...I am no musician, and I best leave that to Prince, who is not only one of the best, but a genius. cool I applaud him for not doing the obvious, even if I don't quite get it.

Nice melody, but the production is so dull. It is a good pop track, simple and formulated well, but there's just so little going on it does a dis-service to the vocals, which sound weak and don't carry what's missing.

I bet a live version of this would've done wonders for the flat studio version.

Yes there is a bit of over production going on in the track I admit. This is why I can only listen to this track SOMETIMES even though it is still one of my favorites.

Would love to hear an acoustic or a more mellow version of this song.

He could really re do it that way and turn it into something even deeper and more meaningful/heartfelt.

I always thought it was a play on the words 'eye scream' = 'Ice cream'. As in 'Ice Creammmmm' which Prince used to shout out to the revolution as a band prompt.

I too love the lyrics and emotion of this song, but not the production. I wish he'd re-record some of the Emancipation tracks using real instruments. And while he's at it, get rid of that fucking triangle in Dreamin' About U. hammer I LOVE LOVE LOVE his vocals on that song, but the 'ting' pitch is so annoying and I can't tune it out like some other effects.

This is one of, if the most, well-constructed songs Prince has ever recorded. It is a collection of specific instrumentals that work together as a tight, tight melody.

"In This Bed Eye Scream" may be Exhibit A in the case for Prince's genius.

I think it is truly a great song indeed. I`ve read a lot of `fams` say they didnt like the extended ending to fill the hour on the cd but I dig the song just as it is, & I Love the long ending!
