I think he got a weave. No way his hair grew that much between New Power Soul era(1998) and the Rave era (1999). Less than a year apart

But I mean the pics are the year in witch it(The Rainbow Children) was released..The Hair and style is from TRC, like the pic of him on the side of the album. And btw if it was combined with an era it certainly would not be Rave..Come to think about it I think it(TRC) was combined with One Nite Alone. Some people think I'm kinda cute

Thanks, (I'm just trying to get these periods correct...not arguing) his Hit n Run tour Rave ended around April 2001 time frame went into 2001 Rave Un2 the Joy - Rave In2 the Joy... That look on tRC album was very common during his Rave era and the NPG shirts more recent in 2001 but still seems to be apart of those shows, and wore that hair style with the sweeters during the Rave era adding the NPG headpiece (yet during the actual RC/One Night Alone his hair was cut short again) tRC released November 2001, the Celebrations started around June 2001 and were in other cities and were connected with Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic time period, then they were mainly at Paisley Park Rainbow Children, One Nite Alone, Musicology all seem 2 go 2gether June 13. 2001 April 19. 2001 May 3. 2001 May 16 2000 ^ this is the similar look 2 the Rainbow Chidren album

While Rave.. is an important piece of work to Prince personally, I don't consider it being an essential must-have album. Some songs are fine, some are not.
At the time he did an interview with Bass Player magazine where he states "there's bass all over this record. There's no good funk happening these days, I'm still waiting for George Clinton to do something!" There is bass, yes but nothing to rave about in my opinion. "Undisputed" sounds fine to me, bass-wise too but that's about it. I'm not a musician so I have to say I could never make an album better than this, but I can say that he's done better albums than this. Songwriting and production sound a bit sloppy to me, even if superficially the graphic design and certain elements in some tracks suggest the opposite. The overall sound is totally opposite to what will be his next album, The Rainbow Children which has a warm, organic feeling to it. But then again, themes are not really related.

In 1999, Prince once again signed with a major label Arista Records to release a new record, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic. In an attempt to make his new album a success, Prince easily gave more interviews than at any other point in his career, appearing on MTV's Total Request Live (with his album cover on the front of the Virgin Megastore, in the background on TRL throughout the whole show), Larry King Live (with Larry Graham) and other media outlets. Nevertheless, Rave Un2 the Joy Fantastic failed to perform well commercially. A few months earlier, Warner Bros. had also released The Vault: Old Friends 4 Sale, a collection of unreleased material recorded by Prince throughout his career, and his final recording commitment on his contract with Warner Bros. The greatest success he had during the year was with the EP 1999: The New Master, released in time for Prince to collect a small portion of the sales dollars Warner Bros. had been seeing for the album and singles of the original 1999. Both critics and fans panned The New Master, declaring it unimaginative. The pay-per-view concert, Rave Un2 the Year 2000, was broadcast on 31 December 1999 and consisted of footage from the 17 December and December 18, concerts of his 1999 tour. The concert featured appearances by many guest musicians including Lenny Kravitz, George Clinton, Jimmy Russell, and The Time. It was released to home video the following year. A remix album, Rave In2 the Joy Fantastic (as opposed to "Un2") was released exclusively through Prince's NPG Music Club in April 2000. The NPG Music Club (NPGMC) was Prince's exclusive online music subscription service / music download store from 2001 - 2005.. Prince controlled every aspect of this business venture. NPGMC distributed most of his music and videos over the Internet during this period. NPGMC members got music and videos - some exclusive to members only, and others before they were released to the general public. Members could buy CD's and merchandise only available to club members. In addition, they got the opportunity to purchase tickets to concerts with prime seating prior to sale to the general public (without ticket charges). Also members who bought tickets during the pre-sale were given free admission to sound checks and aftershows (if there was either). Each year was different in how and what form they received Prince's music. Year One - 2001 Each month, NPG Music Club members were given access to Prince's infamous vault with unreleased songs, live performance tracks and videos to download from the web site. In addition, there was a monthly NPG Ahdio show hosted by The NPG with music you don't hear on the radio. Included was music from Chaka Khan, Larry Graham, Rhonda Smith, Ani DiFranco, The Fonky Bald Heads, Kip Blackshire, Milenia, The Time, Rosie Gaines and of course Prince! All you needed was a computer with internet access, software to play mp3 files and QuickTime videos, and a membership to the NPG Music Club. There were two types of memberships available, Basic and Premium. Details for each membership are below. NPG Music Club Basic Monthly Membership - $7.77 / Monthly Every month a new edition of NPG Music Club is released to members through the members-only website. Each edition includes: 3 or more brand new NPG tracks for download An hour-long NPG Transmission, DJ'd by The NPG NPG Music Club Premium Membership - $100.00 / Yearly Members receive 12 months of Basic Monthly Membership PLUS: Bonus tracks and/or Video each month The "Rave In2 The Joy Fantastic" Special Edition CD © 1999 NPG Records Opportunities for advanced tickets to Prince concerts Opportunities to attend concert afterparties Access to Members-only events Exclusive webcast events Many NPGMC surprises NPGMC FREE FILES: NPGMC Intro VIDEO "When Eye Lay My Hands On U" - Prince NPGMC Commercial NPGMC FIRST EDITION, February 2001: "When Eye Lay My Hands On U" VIDEO - Prince "Mad" - "The Funky Design" - "Splash" - Prince & The Revolution The NPG AHDIO SHOW #1 Premium Bonus Trax: "Peace" - The New Power Generation "U Make My Sun Shine" VIDEO - Prince with Angie Stone NPGMC SECOND EDITION, March 2001: "Controversy/Mutiny (LIVE)" VIDEO - Prince & The NPG The NPG AHDIO SHOW #2 "We March (Live)" - & the NPG "Vicki Waiting (Live)" - & the NPG "Letitgo (Live)" - & the NPG Premium Bonus Trax: "The Daisy Chain" VIDEO - The New Power Generation "The Return Of The Bumpsquad (Live)" - & the NPG NPGMC THIRD EDITION, April 2001: "Northside" - The New Power Generation "Habibi" - Prince "The Work - Part 1" - Prince The NPG AHDIO SHOW #3 Premium Bonus Trax: "The Daisy Chain" - The New Power Generation NPGMC FOURTH EDITION, May 2001: "Props N' Pounds" - Prince "The Work - Part 1 (Performance)" VIDEO - Prince The NPG AHDIO SHOW #4 "Sex In My Bones" - The Fonky Bald Heads "Hit U In The Socket" - Rosie Gaines "Get Wild (Performance)" VIDEO - The NPG Premium Bonus Trax: "The Ballad of Dorothy Parker (Performance)" VIDEO - Prince "ICNTTPOYMan (Live)" VIDEO - Prince NPGMC FIFTH EDITION, June 2001: The NPG AHDIO SHOW #5 "Baby Knows (Performance)" VIDEO - Prince "Sex Me Sex Me Not" - Prince "Supercute" - Prince "Prettyman (Performance)" VIDEO - Prince Premium Bonus Trax: "The Ride (Performance)" VIDEO - Prince "Y Should Eye Do That When Eye Can Do This?" - Prince NPGMC SIXTH EDITION, July 2001: "S&M Groove" - "VanGough" - "Endorphinmachine (Performance)" VIDEO - The NPG "HypnoParadise" - The NPG Ahdio Show #6 Premium Bonus Trax: "One Song" VIDEO - "Instrumental" - NPGMC SEVENTH EDITION, August 2001: "Judas Kiss" - Prince "Get Wild (Miami Mix)" - The NPG "Horny Pony" - Prince & The NPG The NPG Ahdio Show #7 "Bambi (LIVE)" VIDEO - Prince & The NPG Premium Bonus Trax: "Golden Parachute (Long Version)" - Prince NPGMC EIGHTH EDITION, September 2001: "My Medallion" - Prince "Thieves In The Temple (Remix)" - Prince "Rebirth Of The Flesh (Rehearsal '88)" - Prince "If Eye Was Ur Girlfriend (LIVE)" VIDEO - Prince & The NPG The NPG Ahdio Show #8 Premium Bonus Trax: "Contest Song" - The NPG NPGMC NINTH EDITION, October 2001: "The Rainbow Children (PreRelease)" LO - Prince Premium Bonus Trax: "The Rainbow Children (PreRelease)" - Prince NPGMC TENTH EDITION, November 2001: "Live 4 Love (LIVE)" - Prince & The NPG The NPG Ahdio Show #9 "Vavoom" - Prince "Live 4 Love (LIVE)" VIDEO - Prince & The NPG "The Undertaker (LIVE)" VIDEO - and The NPG "Underneath The Cream" - Prince "The Undertaker (LIVE)" - and The NPG "Lovesign" VIDEO - Nona Gaye and Premium Bonus Trax: "We Gon' Make It Funky (LIVE)" - Maceo Parker and Prince "We Gon' Make It Funky (LIVE)" VIDEO - Maceo Parker and Prince NPGMC ELEVENTH EDITION, December 2001: "Gamillah" - Prince "Dolphin" VIDEO - "Silicon" - Prince The NPG Ahdio Show #10 "High" - Prince "Poor Goo (LIVE)" - "Poor Goo (LIVE)" VIDEO - Premium Bonus Trax: "Gett Off (LIVE)" - Prince & The NPG "Gett Off (LIVE)" VIDEO - Prince & The NPG

OldFriends4Sale said: What's your rating of this album cut vs the live intro of this song during the Lovesexy aftershow '88?
The live version was far superior. The album version was extremely disappointing. I had gotten quite accustomed to Prince's opening tracks being strong and powerful and increasing your anticipation for what's about to come next. This was the first time I viewed the opening track as filler. It was weak, bland, and ended with none of UMPH! Prince is known for. A lot of great stuff followed but how many people who were not hardcore fans stuck around to find out after that lackluster opener? Christopher damn!
