Prince and Madonna "Love Song" how crazy this is...where did it come from... they both sound like it was done earlyish in their careers..Im sure someone in here knows the whole story so...Lay it on me..... The energy in this field's been known to flicker lights, aight
Asong with no name, acapella moans and a bridge of silence Undeterred nevertheless a masterpiece on butterscotch thighs Turn off the lights, turn off the lights It's time for Mr Go

I think it came from a session when they were thinking of doing a musical together (a project which eventually became the oscar-nominated Grafitti Bridge). Madonna flew to Minne, then left pretty quickly.
Love Song was the stain left on the sheets. It was followed up by some phone sex, I believe but this is the only time they actually swapped juices. Of course, it ended up on Madonna's 1989 album Like A Prayer (which Prince also did some other bits on)

Cool song and you'll have noticed that Madonna lifted the 'time goes by so slowly...' for another airing on Hung Up.

Love Song was the stain left on the sheets. It was followed up by some phone sex, I believe but this is the only time they actually swapped juices. Of course, it ended up on Madonna's 1989 album Like A Prayer (which Prince also did some other bits on) More specifically, they did some work together, but most of it was done via phone and fax machine for this song. They'd send ideas back and forth, and hammered it out, and this is what we hear on the final version. Madonna called Prince's script "shit", for what eventually became Graffiti Bridge. Madonna in Minneapolis was really quick. Prince had set up some apartment for her, but she didn't even stay a whole day; never stayed over night. Prince's assistant, at the time, commented later to someone about how much better Madonna treated her own assistant compared to how Prince dealt with her (his assistant). I'm a bit disappointed with the collaboration. It's a wonky song, and it doesn't really fit on her album. It's clanky, sparse, collapses every 16 measures, the chorus is weak and not catchy at all. If anything, it should have been on a Prince album, or just some one-off single, or perhaps as a new track on The Immaculate Collection, out a couple of years after Like A Prayer. Early on, I often found myself skipping the track.

I love all the space that he creates in the song while she sounds in such hurry - nice tension, and then she rushes off like an orgasm in the next track. I think it works well.

Sweetie, I've been listening to that song since it came out 21 years ago. If it hasn't grown by now, it won't ever. And it hasn't. Eh well....there are better collaborations than this one, easily.

It's a classic album but I think "love song" is the weakest track. I feel the same about the No Doubt album, brilliant but would have been better without the Prince tune.. Prince is better doing his own thing although a duet with Paul Mccartney would be awesome "Still Crazy 4 Coco Rock"
