I've had "The Black Album" for years. I got it at a record store in Cleveland.

I recommend all of Prince's records. However,

"The Rainbow Children."
"Emancipation."
"Musicology."
"3121."

are amongst the records I listen to most frequently. cool

In my opinion, after 1992... go for Emancipation, and Rave. I guess 3121 for the most recent albums.

I've had it since the early 90s. I bought the official version from WB when it came out in 96 or 95 (can't remember).

If you want the Black Album, hit up Amazon or any big online retailer.

Recommended albums after 1992 - They will ALL be recommended by someone or other, but generally speaking the ones that will come up the most are:

Come (1993)
The Gold Experience (1995)
The Rainbow Children (2001)
3121 (2005)

yes, I bought the officially released Black Album on CD in my local record shop in Ålborg, Denmark in 1994. wink

Brilliant Prince albums since 1992: Come (1994) and The Gold Experience (1995).

Good luck finding these, Gold Experience is out of print, afaik.

I had a boot of it in 1989.

Of course, I bought the official one.

After 1992 I can only say "Come" as the rest only had a couple of songs I liked only marginally.

Right now I am listening to Lotusflower for the 1st time. Track 1 is ok.

Just noticed Crimson & Clover... This should be a good one.

I was in London right around the time Lovesexy was released when one of my friends showed me a cassette with prince on the front which i didn't recognize....turns out that it was a Bootleg of the Black Album! I had to have it naturally but the only other tape I had at the time was SOTT so i used it so he could make me a copy! I could always get another SOTT tape but this was a unique situation! The thing was it played a little faster then regular speed but I didn't realize it until I heard the released version and everything sounded too slow! I "did" buy the Black ALbum when it was released (of course) but for a short while I had a rare and special gift....and I still have it!

Yes...bought it in 94 when it was officially released. I think I got it at Sound Wherehouse (remember that place?). Before that I had a taped boot that I charished. I had like 4 back ups, you know, just in case. I still love that album. Funky, fun, cool, and bad ass (at least it was then).

After 92? Gold Experience, Crystal Ball, The Vault, Musicology, 3121, and Lotusflower...those are my faves since then.

I also bought it on it's official release. I was on my way to buy it when my car was hit by a drunk driver. I still stopped by to pick up a copy before I went to the hospital. I had to have it.

Post 92, I'm going to echo a lot of other posters too.

Come
The Gold Experience
Chaos & Disorder
LotusFlow3r

are my highest recommendations. Then I'd go for the big sets, Crystal Ball & Emancipation.

I disagree with the recommendations I've seen for Rainbow Children though. Unless you're sexist, slightly racist and want to be indoctrinated into the JW church. If that's you, then snap it up.

Got it on vinyl for my birthday in September apparently from a used record store in my hometown of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. As for post-92, I don't know, just whatever you can get your hands on I guess. I can't say just one. cool

Yes.

Albums after 1992... and no one has mentioned Exodus! Get that... it's good... and if you can find The Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse, get them too... they're quite interesting.

Also, Gold Experience, Come (They're almost parts one and two of the same album... sorry, two and one, the way I've typed this)... and get Emancipation, The Truth/Crystal Ball, 3121 and Musicology - for some of the songs.

If you can get the Beautiful Experience Maxiplay single, get that.

If you can find any of the Paisley Park videos around the Gold Experience and The Undertaker, get them too.

Oh, and get NEWS - it's not to everyone's taste, but it's a curiosity worth a listen... you can always resell on ebay or use it as a coaster/dartboard.

I bought the CD in a new/used record shop in '02.

It's a bootleg copy, because the cover is a picture of Prince at a concert instead of the actual All Black Cover.

Bought the official CD on December 18th 1994 with another recommended post 92 album - Come. The album is worth it for Dark alone.

Best post 92 album though is 3121 followed by TGE

I recommend: Come (not very hard to find), Gold (very hard to find with decent price, I paid 90$), Emancipation, Crystal Ball (hard to find with decent price), 3121

I got my copy of the Black Album recently at Amoeba Records. They had about 3 copies. As for albums after 1992--the last one I bought in 1995--The Gold Experience is one of my favorites. More recently, I like his live albums--One Nite Alone and All Day, All Night, All Week (2009). cool
