It's a bit depressing how fast this thread went off topic. I wonder if it is the word "gay" that make some people fly up and do the auto commenting as in "not gay ever no no no" and so forth. It's even more depressing, that the auto-commenters seem to want to focus on feminine clothes when discussing "them gays", rather than what it's about .. love.

Anyway, the story really does say more about this "Angela's" perception of how gay men are than it does about gay men. But that's actually the core point, I think, when people want to claim Prince is gay, or not, based solely on his appearences. Everytime I hear the statement that feminine characteristics equals homosexuality I throw up in my mouth and think to myself: "Man, you need to get out there and meet some people, face the real world". Loads of people aren't gay even though they don't look like Bruce Springsteen and look more like Prince (and loads of people are gay, looking like Bruce Springsteen and nothing like Prince).

I have a handful of gay friends, and what will strike most people about most of them, is that there's "real world gay" and then there's "eccentric tv-gay". Either is fine by me, but "tv-gay" is not really a uniform or a code of conduct that most gay men adopt. There's no natural law that makes the color pink equal to sitting on sticks. And when there's no such law, there's no logic in concluding that the clothes Prince wear says anything about who he falls in love with.

Anywho, this all obvious statements, one should think. I can not say that Prince is definitely gay or that he definitely isn't. All I'm saying is that nobody can, at least not on the boring concept of apprearance.

It's like thinking men in leather jackets must be into S/M.

very nice.

wave

But seriously how can this still be a discussion?

I mean, are people talking about Prince and his flamboyance (which some seem to think equals gay)?
Or are people really just taking a dump online.. squeezing in their crowbar-opinion on everything "gay"?

We are talking about Prince. And all the people who have been accused of something they are not. If you said to guy that had homophobia that he gay. He would swear
at you.or worst.. And how it can be a discussion (please) If you didn't want to post you didn't have too. I'm using Prince Lyrics on this one , you know. I have to take a dump on line MAN!!! I'am Too Smart wink

Don't play me
I'm over 30 and I don't smoke weed
I put my ass away and the music I play
Ain't the type of stereo U're tryin' 2 feed
Don't play me

Don't play me
I use proper English and I'm straight
I'm in the news again 4 payin' dues my friend
I'm not the ganda U prop in my way
Don't play me

Cuz I've been 2 the mountain top and it ain't what U say
Don't play me

Don't play me
I'm the wrong color and I play guitar
My only competition is?well, me in the past
And time and time, if time existed, movin' ever so fast
Don't play me

U couldn't play enough of me now 2 make me feel like a star
Don't play me, I already do in my car
Don't play me

Don't be mad at me, the curtain puller in the game
Maybe all, how U call us, niggas ain't the same
It's all good when U know the only fame
Is the light that comes from God and the joy U get 2 say His name
Don't play me (Don't play me)

I've seen the mountain top and it ain't what U say
Don't play me hijacked hijacked

How are you in ANY way seeing a disagreement, other that I think it's a f*cked up discussion for different reasons than you? You thinking gay "accusations" are bad, me thinking calling something gay because it's pink or feminine is idiotic.

Craven you could have use some better words. I could again use Prince Lyrics but I won't I will respect your opinion. You and I know that If your look a certain away some people are going to say that your gay.I read some of the older thread 2009 ones. Prince came up alot as being a Queen. Now If you want me to see it your way. This is not the way. I wanted to know why does some of the gay orgers (im not trying to offend anyone) think that Prince is gay and what are some charateristics that you'd think he's gay? What would make you think he's gay? Because the way he dress, cause if I heard or saw some offensive words. Seems to me a straight man when he's singing (Prince) can't make hand gesture saying his making fun of the gay community. Which he was not.. I think this thread is very informative. Because it really brings out the real sides of each person Straight or Gay. Think of it as helping the other person to see how people of other Sexual Orientation think. Not like someone
is against your way of living. Some straight people think that up to God Sexual Orientation. I'am not God. I'm not judging.

I actually think I was very clear.

But sure, let's disagree to agree wink

However, this one:

boogiebear said:

I'am straight, men that are straight don't want to

Whatever it is that "straight men don't want to" .. I think is the root of the whole "Prince is gay / Prince is not gay" and frankly, the answer to the original post.

The only way one can keep discussing the sexuality of Prince 30 years later, despite there's nothing more to it than what Prince has stated on the matter (and even if one likes to think that his statement perhaps isn't the entire truth, at least one must admit, that unless Prince is banging you, the discussion won't matter much), is to clinge to the notion of what "real straight men" are and act like. As long as there's such strict ideas of what dress code and what manners "real straight men" should follow like law and rules, and as long as Prince keeps breaking every one of those "real straight men" dogmas by looking like a powder queen at times.. people will question his sexuality.

If you adopt the idea, that people can look as they want to, be as feminine or masculine as they like without it saying anything about their sexuality, this:

boogiebear said:

But he was so feminine. More than Prince. She told my other sister (lets call her Ashley) that he seem gay and he sure as well might be.

...would be of no surprise to anyone.

And oh, I'm straight, but I'll look and act as "gay" as I want to and hang out with gay friends and have a good time, and I frankly don't care if strangers think I'm gay. That doesn't mean I'm gay .. it just means I'm confident enough to be myself.

No woman has come forward about Jodie Foster.

Yes she has. Her name is Jodie Foster.

In December 2007, Foster made headlines when, during an acceptance speech at Hollywood Reporter's "Women in Entertainment" event, she paid tribute to film producer Cydney Bernard, referring to her as "my beautiful Cydney, who sticks with me through the rotten and the bliss." Some media interpreted this as Foster coming out, as Bernard was believed to be her girlfriend since both met in 1992 during the filming of Sommersby. Foster and Bernard never attended premieres or award ceremonies together, nor did they ever appear to be affectionate with each other. However, Bernard was seen in public with Foster's children on many occasions. On May 15, 2008, several news outlets reported that Foster and Bernard had "called it quits."

It's called The Glass Closet.

yeah, but Oprah could say this about Gayle, do you know what I mean? Cydney could be seen as a much loved, long term, personal assistant and nanny. People who already figured out that Foster was just as gay as she is private, got it. But others could still go on being in the dark.
There came a time when the risk of remaining tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom. Anais Nin.
