Prince shares a name with the South African leader, Nelson Mandela.



I wonder how he might have pondered this link, seeing that names have been central in Prince's song-writing, lyrical style

idk...nelson is a super common last name. but i guess anything is possible!

Once, when he was asked to comment on his ridiculous name change to a symbol, he replied with, "Who is Nel's Son?" as a cheeky comment that Prince Rogers Nelson meant nothing to him (which of course it did, since he reverted back to being called that after his CONtract was up).

So, looking at it that way, I think he pondered the link between him and Nel Chan:

and of course, NEL Carter:



And the parallels there are remarkable too. For example, in his early career he surrounded himself with legions of white women in his videos.


Prince is a smart guy---I'm certain he made the connection.

The current president is Jacob Zuma
