On TMBGITW, Prince sings 'you could be, the most beautiful girl in the world'. I've always found this a bit ambiguous since does he mean 'maybe I've found a woman who is the most beautiful girl in the world' or 'if you scrubbed up a bit or lost some weight you have the potential to be the most beautiful girl in the world'.

Anybody else feel thhis or is he deliberately being ambiguous?

I do believe that Prince has had an image in his mind of the most beautiful girl in the world.

At the time the song was an inspiration to be written, Prince probably felt something for someone...and beautiful would ultimately mean how she treats him.

Over the years I believe the song reaches out to the beautiful girl in every girl.

I've never heard "You could be", it's "Could you be?" then he answers "yes" at the end of the song.

It's "could you be?"--as in, he's almost in disbelief that he's lucky enough to have the most beautiful girl in the world right in front of him.

I think he's saying if she's with him, she IS the most beautiful girl in the world (to him) and he's asking her could she be? As in could she be with him and thus, be the most beautiful girl in "his" world.
