clapping Great! I'm glad the industry still thinks so highly of Prince. He is one of the greatest and although many may disagree, this Lotusflower collection is a great work of art IMHO.

Dreamer nominated in the Rock category. That's exactly want everyone was hoping for, doubting it would happen. Yessssaaahhh. Congratulations!!! biggrin

If Bruce wins this one, I will be kind of upset. To me, most of the others in the category are just pop songs and not rock.

I think he has a great shot of winning this one!

Fabulous news! Glad to see he's been recognised, even though it's not my favourite category. I hope he wins it!

i dont know, i think he has a fair enough chance. Prince has more clout among artists and industry types than regular joes.

I listen rock on the radio mainly because its the better of the crap music out right now. I felt strongly on first listen that "Dreamer" should have been dispatched to rock radio, it would have gotten a better shake than the crap on MplSound.

I highly doubt ANY music critic could doubt the merits of "Dreamer" other than the mainstream popularity of Prince. It is a great track plain and simple. and i would say better than other nominated songs on that category.

Four music legends getting a much deserved nod of approval.

I fully agree. Congrats to Prince! And just because I'm greedy, I'd love to see him perform the song at the ceremony and melt everyone's face.

Nominated for best rock vocal?!! Hm, great guitar playing, but the vocals..? Nothing special. And the song itself is a very traditional dated Hendrix rock song.

The Grammys have a rock vocal category and a rock instrumental category. He's nominated for rock vocal because there's a lead vocal on the track.
If "Dreamer" had been an instrumental and got nominated, he'd be up against Steve Vai, Jeff Beck, Brian Setzer, Booker T, and Brad Paisley (I thought he was country, but he's in a rock category).

Besides, the category deals with best vocal performance so I have high hopes for Prince.

many thoughts come to mind after reading this

1) Dreamer...after all the recent discussion about the tune lol

2) I remember Prince saying something like "what the F is a grammy?" when he was really rebelling

3) Well done again, Prince...even if the digital garden digs ya, it can be a treat

Yeah, I phoned the radio stations just yesterday for a request and they gave me some crazy excuse the reason why they would not be able to play it or other songs from the albums. "It has to be a hit". How in the world do they exspect it to become a hit if you don't play it on the airwaves!! Crazy DJ.
I hope he wins!!

We can always hope that he'll be asked to perform. It'd be nice if he showed up and they televised the award being given out as opposed to the previous wins he's had.

I was actually talking about him doing a separate performance elsewhere live, so the song could be heard and promoted before the award show. We certainly can't depend on radio these days to make the rounds, but it would be nice to hear it played live again. We had a lengthy discussion about the lyrics in "Dreamer" last week in this forum.

off this topic but Grammy related

WTF

NPG backs Nick Jonas??

Nick Jonas & The Administration (Tommy Babarella (keys), Michael Bland (drums), Sonny Thompson (guitar) and some other dude (bass)).

At the Grammy Award nominations David Ryan Harris played but Sonny Thompson is going on tour.

guess they go with whoever pays the most. JT got Blackwell and think someone else for his tour a few years ago..

From what I understand, the use of the word "vocal" in the nomination title only suggests differentiation from the other categories, as in "Rock Song With Vocals". It has nothing to do with the quality, or lack of quality in the vocal delivery.

Bob Dylan is nominated. Have you heard that crazy polecat sing?

There's a new poll on the front page asking who will win the award. In the coming weeks, when it is announced who's going to perform at the Grammy's, there's about a 90% chance that person will take the trophy home.
