People forget that stuff about Prince. They always assume he is in the wrong and poor little Mayte was taken for a ride she had no control in the situation or no motives. I think they are equally to blame for why the marriage didn't work out.

First of all you have to admit that Mayte was the best piece of ass that Prince ever had onstage with him....I always remember her at the June '94 birthday shows at Glam Slam Miami...she was in her absolute prime then.

Prince is very independent and bullheaded..you can't blame her for anything bad in his music. And Friend Lover Sister Mother Wife is one of his best songs from the 90s...Mayte cleary inspired this so thank her for that.

I do remember reading Prince say that Mayte was helping his break his addiction to being in the studio recording all the time...that maybe wasn't a great influence but he would have done that eventually on his own anyhow.

I blame Mayte for the NPG 94 being as Funky as Funky can be. I blame Mayte for Emancipation Disc 2. I blame Mayte for the prince Album. And thats the reason why I still like Mayte.

I thank Mayte as well as some of the other on here have done.

The Mayte Era of Prince's music is one of my favorite periods of his music.
There is a magic there in those songs that I feel Prince has not recaptured yet in his new music. I like alot of the new music too. But it just does not always feel as inspired as the music did when Mayte was around. It is sad they did not survive as a couple.

Yes, Possibly had to do with the Warner Bros fight during that period of time also. I still believe Mayte had something to do with it. Prince seemed so cozy with Mayte. The NPG circa 94 was unbelievable good..and in a way one of the best kept secrets as Prince was more underground. I miss them days.

Emancipation is the very last Prince record that means anything to me at all.

I think Mayte had everything to do with that.

His weird/crazy control issues destroyed that though, and I highly doubt she was ever wife material to begin with either.

Mayte was YOUNG and wanted a bad-ass.

Prince WAS a bad-ass during the prince album and Gold Experience.

But with Emancipation he became a softy. And as much as women say they like that, they really don't.

She was just young, dumb and full of ....

Before Mayte, Prince had a blossoming career trajectory to infiltrate the hardcore hip hop market with Tony M. Who the hell do you think Tony M. was referring to when he spoke of 23 positions and a one night stand? Prince, fool!
They even appeared on Arsenio simulating anal sex (Prince being the submissive bottom in a yellow jumpsuit, matching pumps, and a yellow 'do' rag on his head of course).

Mayte ruined everything!

She is to the NPG what Yoko Ono was to the Beetles--utter and inevitable artistic death!

But after Mayte, we were lead down a slippery slope to 1999--the new master.

Of course, Prince isn't truly the victim here. Prince seems to always get his women back, because after they part ways, his women always end up losing their damned minds. Look at what happened to Vanity! Hell, look at the mess that became of Mayte! She went from a Royles Royce (Prince) to the Scooby Doo Mystery Machine (Tommy Lee).... Thanks to his various communicable diseases, she's potentially the least datable woman on earth now just behind Kate Goselin and the Octomom.
