Welcome 2 The Dawn

When the things U know are right
are far from what they seem
When the past becomes the future
and time becomes a dream
When the light of God
is the only thing in life that will redeem
Welcome, welcome 2 the dawn

When the voices U hear commands U
2 entertain thee absurd
When U do the action unlocks
thee apocalypse of that you've heard of
When the day lies before U
seems the dakness in a word
Welcome, welcome 2 the dawn

Every pieces a puzzle and every name a clue
Every charge U make is karma
So be careful what U do
Welcome, welcome 2 the dawn

(Welcome 2 the dawn) (Thank U)

is this it?

The cold dying air was still
He could not see in the darkness
There was no answer in the chill

In his travels he met many creatures
None of them could shed any light
And bring into focus any features

His internal light was kept a flame
Fueled by the children from a
Man with no name

Every corner and hill looked like the last
A never ending journey into the darkness
The only spark it seemed, being carried by the outcast

In the distance, a voice is heard
He could hardly hear it, did he want to?
A voice with no soud, is the absurd?

The voice grew louder, passion filled the air
Foreign to him was the sound, plain and beautiful
Could this be something for witch he could care?

The voice became part of him, moving him like a pawn
“I will be your guide into the future, my sweet?”
and then with a light neve before seen, there it was... The dawn

For many us Welcome 2 the Dawn (THE TRUTH CD) was a deliverance of such. With the wish of “may you live to see the dawn” littered through Prince’s work, W2TD was the arrival. A mix of faith and salvation both spiritual and in a sense in the Artist and his struggle, W2TD brought us into a new era of Prince’s musical journey either by design or by fate. It’s just a shame that along with the other stand out tracks on this album, W2TD doesn’t even register on most Prince “fans” radar let alone on the general listening public.

This Borders promo cassette was given out at the Mill City Music Festival in Minneapolis when Prince did an outdoor show there. It has the song Welcome 2 The Dawn on it and says "From the 4thcoming album The Dawn".

10. THE POPE (4:33) – mix created using the album version from ‘The Hits 2’, the promo only 12” remix, a drum loop from ‘Acknowledge Me’ (barely noticable) and a burst of ‘D.M.S.R.’ from the ‘1999’ album.
11. RIPOPGODAZIPPA (4:37) – taken from ‘Crystal Ball’.
12. npg operator (0:06)
13. RACE (8:21) – mix created using the video version (from the Beautiful Experience TV special) and the ‘Outta Space’ part of the unreleased NPG version of ‘Super Hero’ from the ‘Exodus’ sessions (Fantasia).

08. 319 (3:19) – taken from ‘The Gold Experience’, including the ‘hotel lobby’ intro (which is how it was originally intended to appear on the released album, as the intro was specifically created to make the song last exactly 3:19).
09. HIDE THE BONE (5:06) – taken from ‘Crystal Ball’
10. 18 & OVER (6:22) – original unreleased longer version (Fantasia), edited slightly at the end to create an ‘ending’ rather than a fade out.

05. LOVE SIGN (4:36) – the ‘1-800-NEW-FUNK’ version, edited slightly to create an actual ‘ending’ to the song. (Intro segue features snippet of the unreleased ‘Mack Attack Message Mix’ over street sounds and gunshots taken from various sound effects discs)
06. WHAT’S MY NAME (3:02) – taken from ‘Crystal Ball’, with the addition of the unreleased spoken “welcome 2 the dawn” intro (Deposition).
07. THE RIDE (8:44) – mix created using the version on ‘Crystal Ball’ and the unreleased version from ‘The Undertaker’ album, intro drums cleaned up a bit and start of song now extended by a couple of bars using loop of the beat with odd keyboard and guitar parts from the later breakdown section spun in.
08. Zannalee (2:46) - unreleased original version.
09. npg operator (0:20)
10. NOW (4:29) – taken from ‘The Gold Experience’. no longer edited down
11. FACE DOWN (2:19) – remix made using the promo only ‘Acapella Mix’ and loops from ‘Now’. intro now extended slightly due to different segue point with previous track

Was The Dawn proposed as his next album after Emancipation? obviously if it was after he decided to ditch the idea and go for the CB/Truth(+kamasutra) combo, then it was too far gone and he lost interest in the project.

If I remember correctly, The Dawn would have been a different configuration of what turned out to be Emancipation/The Truth. I believe the song Prince talked up during the Lotusflow3r preview, "The Divine" was also supposed to have been intended for The Dawn. I think langebleu or Boris mentioned that Prince has had ideas for an album called The Dawn for years.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.
