Crystal Ball (Song) question.

I love this song so much, it is one of favs. One of the W&L version's that is. Not really liking the album release.

My question is what is it actually about? He talks about 'having a crystal ball' 'ever had a crystal ball' etc.. in a sexual way.

Is this some sexual move/position/act, that I am naive to?

I wish prince expermented in this parade/post parade way for longer.

Commonly a crystal ball is used as a means of seeing the future

also remember "hot thing"

Hot thing, maybe U should give your folks a call
Hot thing, tell them you're going 2 the Crystal Ball
Hot thing, tell them you're coming home late,
if you're coming home at all

and the unreleased song "The Ball" (which was redone as eye no)

From the liner notes:

The song Crystal Ball was written in a deepbluefunkdepression as Prince pondered his future in a music business that had become more business than music.

His only solace during this time was his continuing search 4 a soulmate. "All that matters is the love we make 2night. The notion of making love during the apocalypse was an interesting notion 2 us at the time."

Susannah Melvoin lends her voice 2 the track and Clare Fischer arranged and conducted the orchestra. All other noises r made by Prince.

It has been indicated that the question "Have U Ever Had a Crystal Ball?" refers to the stopping of time during the process of making love, in order to 'see' the future, which Prince obviously believes exists outside of time.

Who is watching the clock ? 15 mins or 15 days (or was that nine and a half days ?)
surely, time is irrelevant when in love!

Experience the 15 minute eternity.....and smile
wink

Crystal Ball is a play on words. Prince used it as the name for a big party.
Not just any party, but the party to end all parties at the end of time.
It used to be a recurring theme in Prince's music. It's the same party from
1999, only now it had been given a name. And after the party, the idea was to
make love until the world ended.
