Prince's vocals on Elephants & Flowers

Have you ever heard Prince sing like this besides Elephants and Flowers? It is seemingly a different vocal delivery than usual.

"I'VE GOT A MIND FULL OF GOOD INTENTIONS
AND A MOUTH FULL OF RAISINETS..."

Yea I noticed that when I heard it for the 1st time. Kinda scratchy, and a bit rough. The closest Ive heard to that sound is on Dreamer, towards the end.
"Peanut butter logic, served on a bed of lies, dont go down to easy when you seen you father cry. Have you ever clutched the steering wheel of you car to tight....."

Yeah, that's his "rock" voice. Elephants and Flowers does sound a bit more restrained version of it though.

The original demo version about "Coco" is even better vocally.

I've heard about an alternate version of "Elephants and Flowers". Is that what you're talking about? Is it just the lyrics that are different mainly?

Lion of Judah, maybe? His voice sounded a bit raspy there, too,but in a good way.
I like that song but the lyrics are not my cup of tea. Elephants and Flowers is better in the lyrics department.

"I´ve been robbed of most of my money, can I at least get a blow job?"

"A lot of men don´t like eating pussy and I have a problem with that!"

Now guess where those quotes are from and you might win a coupon for some licky licky action

Similar voice is on the "press 1 4 the money" part in Endorphine Machine.

Listen to New Order's "Bizarre Love Triangle". When reversed, you can hear clearly "Jarvius Lovesexy will be baaack".

His "Morris" voice sometimes approaches this, like in "Take this Beat"

"If you have opinions you can't see"

It's Michael Jackson-ish. I love the song and his vocal delivery.

Interesting. I never knew there was another version to this song but found the lyrics. Quite different.
