madrid 2 chicago

Hey, can anyone tell me some more information on this song? I've unfortunately never heard it and was wondering what style is it, similar to the Chocolate Invasion songs? Thanks

A sample of "Madrid 2 Chicago" was made available on the Love 4 One Another web site along with "U're Still The One" on January 26, 1999. The full version wasn't available until the 12th edition of the NPGMC in January 2002. According to the Music Club the track was going to be included on an album entitled Madrid 2 Chicago. The title refers to Prince's flight to see Mayte after she moved to Spain. "Madrid 2 Chicago" is a gentle, subdued and somewhat mellow soul number, starting off with a slow, intricate drum machine pattern. The arrangement is very sparse, focusing on the drums and some synth touches. Prince is longing for his woman, "I got you on my mind, you on my mind, nothing but you on my mind."

Madrid 2 Chicago
Nothing but U on the mind
Bills 2 pay, my hairdresser's gay
And the present proves there's no time (Time)

3 pillow couch in a dark brown shade
Another misinterpretation and I still got it made (Made)
How am I gonna make this connection when I-I got nothing but U?
(Nothing but eatin' that pussy)

I got U on my mind, U on my mind
Madrid 2 Chicago
I got U on my mind, U on my mind
Nothing but U on my mind (Hey)

Transfer a million dollars 2 gold
The opposite of ivory color of your thighs
Is molded into my mind
Like the secret code of Egypt
And I love U, said I love U, I love U, I love U
Madrid 2 Chicago
And there's nothing but U on my mind (Mind)
U, baby

Madrid 2 Chicago
U on my mind
Madrid 2 Chicago
Got U on my mind
Madrid 2 Chicago
U, U

(Da da, da da, da da, da da)
U, oh, oh, U on my mind (Madrid 2 Chicago, Madrid 2 Chicago)
Got U on the mind (Madrid 2 Chicago, Madrid 2 Chicago)
Oh, I can't stop thinking about U baby

Madrid 2 Chicago
(Madrid 2 Chicago, Madrid 2 Chicago)
U, U, U, U, U
(Madrid 2 Chicago, Madrid 2 Chicago)
Oh, nothing, nothing but U on my mind, yah (U on my mind, on my mind)
Ooh, oh yes, as soon as I see U baby
I'm gonna put my tongue right there, ooh
Please fasten your seatbelts
We're making our final approach in...

"My hairdresser's gay" is my favorite unintentionally funny and ironic Prince lyric.

HA, so NOT true, of course. I cut and pasted that from the DTT site (which I'm a part of). Hell, even Prince said where it came from.

It was mentioned on the NPGMC site at the time. Prince used to have a Q&A as well as a News, and tidbit type section. It was listed as a song about him flying between Madrid to see Mayte, and Chicago (eventually going to Minneapolis).

Robin Power? 10 years after the fact? Not even close.

looking at those lyrics i'm a little confused as to when was this recorded, it was released after he became JW yet the sexual lyrics suggest before but then other songs from NPGMC get edited, was this early on in the jw phase, was he not too sure? he's not cussed on a record since Crystal Ball 98, Larry's first involvement would be Rave 99 yes. But when did his religion really kick in?

just my mind babbling, humour me will you. lol

The religion and non-cursing kicked in during the middle of the first NPGMC year (2001). When he was releasing long clips of audio from the Hit N Run Tour, he started reversing sections like "P-U-S-S-Y" in "New Position", etc. He also put a disclaimer at the beginning of "Horny Pony", saying something to the effect that this song doesn't endorse premarital sex (which TOTALLY makes him a hypocrite).

Hmmm. I think the non-cursing actually started earlier, in 1998. At least he changed lyrics live then. Still had rather sexually graphic lyrics in 2001, true.

No, he was around Graham at that time, but he was still releasing and singing more explicit songs. But to be fair, it was a gradual thing. When he started editing some of the live content on NPGMC in 2001, that's when fans started to revolt.

As far as the cursing thing is concerned, Prince gradually started rewriting history in 1999-2000. Days Of Wild at the June 2000 Celebration was halted briefly to stop the audience from chanting "play that motherfucking bass". And P started making his crew put $5 in the "swear jar" sometime before that.

I know you could get the Face Down/Jam Of The Year cassette in 1998-1999(but it came out in 1997) in all it's filthy glory.

Yep, he also greatly altered (and overdubbed) the "Days of Wild" single from Montreal that he gave out at the Celebration, as well. I just remember the "New Position" edit being such a nail in the coffin at the time during 2001 NPGMC. People were like "WTF?!?!"

I hope the audiences keep chanting "Play that muthafuckin' bass" more and more, just to piss him off. hahaha

Yes, and if anyone chooses to believe that while married to his soulmate, he writes songs about some skank from 10 years prior, then that's ok.
