databank said: I've had my bashing moments on a few things, like when lotusflow3r was launched and ended up being a disaster. Now i've always been a "lover" when it came 2 talk about Prince as a person and as a musician, reading so many bashing indeed made me go away from this site except for the "technical" threads such as discography or recording sessions threads. This as well as some "moderation" issues (some of them already were mentionned in this thread earlier so i'm not gonna extrapolate on this).
Basically, what shocks me in the so-called "haters" attitude is what shocks me in many internet forums and mundane discussions as well: the complete lack of compassion and respect for someone or, in other words: "how would u feel if THAT was said about YOU by someone u NEVER even met in ur life?". I've had my fair share of celebrity even if it is at a local and ridiculously smaller level than Prince, and i've been bashed (in real life, not online) by people i had never met, basically 4 things that they thought i was doing or thinking or believing when they actually had no clue about who they were talking about. They just let reputation, gossip and their own fear and jealousy of my own particular freedom or success take control of their thoughts and they tried 2 destroy either me or my reputation. That sometimes hurt me a lot when i was younger, particularly considering that it was totally unfair and undeserved (i had never done a thing 2 these people), so i wouldn't encourage anyone 2 do it 2 anyone else. Another thing is that i respect artists 4 their work and Prince more than most others because he taught me a lot. B it with his music, lyrics, political or spiritual statements and attitude, Prince taught me a LOT. He taught me about how 2 make efficient, wild art. He taught me, when i was a teenager, how 2 properly make love 2 a woman. He taught me a lot about God (even though i'm not a JW or even a christian), he taught me a lot about love and respect 4 others, he taught me a lot about how 2 b free, free-minded, independent, and how 2 keep doing what u feel right even if people r bashing u all the time or even if it's against the way the world goes. He taught me how 2 b proud and how 2 b humble. And also, his music gave me a lot of fun and enjoyment, much more than the price of whatever little money i gave him in return when i bought his records or subscribed 2 his websites. Now i don't worship Prince, i just respect him as one of the artists who's been very educative 2 me both as an artist and as a human being. Prince has his issues, i don't necessarly approve everything he's doing or saying, i don't necessarly love each and every one of his songs, but i respect him a lot and whatever this man did 2 contribute 2 my life was positive. As 4 the music, yeah i guess i'm really fascinated by this huge amount of mostly wonderful work and that's why, like a few others here, i'm always trying 2 find the rare song i might not have or more in4mation about a recording session or Prince's creative process. I think every one deserves respect. I sometimes can't stand living on this planet because of the way people behave in real life, and bashing Prince (or Bria and any other associated artist) the way people do it here reflects what i can't stand in real life. Because calling people "creeps" and "assholes" doesn't lead nowhere, particularly when u never met such people and only have a part of the puzzle which is their personality. Because if there's ONE thing i'm SURE about, it's that Prince never personnaly did ANYTHING harmful 2 anyone here, so i really don't understand what's about all the bashing. What some people here write about Prince, these same people would certainly feel destroyed if it was written about them on a public forum. What some people write here about Prince makes me wonder how these people behave in their lives, and think that i probably wouldn't like 2 meet them because they seem 2 enjoy hurting others a lot. Now i know it was a total waste of time writing this and i don't even know why i did it since no one's gonna listen 2 a word i wrote xcept 4 a very few, respectful and moderate, people here. ... Prince with Larry and Chaka are singing on this song, the song formerly known as The Cross... try to watch it somewhere and you will know why Larry Graham is disliked (hated?) by many.. at least by me. Imo: Prince and Larry completely ruined a classic Prince song, some weird JW talking about Jesus not dying on a cross but on a stauros (or whatever that is called?), and renaming one of my fave songs The Christ... silly. But try to watch the performance somewhere, maybe you will agree with me then: Larry was and is a bad thing which happened to Prince. I really dislike him a lot [Edited 11/11/09 8:03am] Prince 4Ever.

You act as though his conversion left him a debased man, lingering in darkened alley ways, begging for change to satisfy his illegal drug cravings! Any time a human being seeks and finds the light of GOD it's a good thing. The fact that he's not singing about licking you from head to toe while riding a purple goat is what everyone is so pissed about. I wasn't a big fan of the assless pants and tube tops anyway, it looked absurdly idiotic. I for one am pleased to see he's matured. He changed with age, so did his music.Pay attention to the lyrics of his post age 40 songs. Just because he doesn't come right out and say he wants to lick you from head to toe on his purple goat doesn't mean he didn't insinuate it.-The Dance- from 3121 for instance was full of it. The man has class and I like it. I went to my first concert two weeks ago at Paisley and although I drove 12 hours and puked my guts up through half the concert I wouldn't change it for the world. If he wants to sing about winged fairies, let him, who gives a damn? It's not that serious. Stop acting like he just decided to become an ass and piss everyone off yesterday. He's always done whatever the hell he wanted, either enjoy the ride or get plowed over when the train leaves the station.

Prince let him in! I'm not a religious person at all. But you have a lot of hostility toward something you don't know anything about! I didn't like Larry singing The Christ, but I loved this... Where, exactly is the JW preaching in this? No, Prince hasn't been re-naming his songs throughout his entire career. But he HAS been using Christian Religious imagery in his lyrics and throughout his live shows! So what the hell is the different between that, and Prince being a Jehovah's Witness and being "ruined" by Larry Graham according to your genius mind??? JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

Yeah, I read that article to a magazine that's been out of business and hasn't been printing for 10 years! In the midst of just glancing over that article, did you actually read it? Did you read the part where someone who worked for Prince said that he was so wound up that he fired people just for looking at him? Did also read where that same staffer said that since Larry's been around, Prince has been more relaxed and happy? All you probably even care about in that article is where it said that Prince won't be performing songs like Sexy M.F. You could care less about Prince's actual well-being. You just want him to do what you want him to do! You don't want him to be anybody's puppet, except yours!!! According to you, he shouldn't listen to Larry Graham and the Jehovah's Witnesses. He should listen to you because YOU know what's best for him!!! JERKIN' EVERYTHING IN SIGHT!!!!!

just cause he introduced something to Prince and Prince willingly made up his mind about what he wants to do.
