And then came the lawsuits. That is the thing to remember: the lawsuits in 1999 didn't come out of nowhere, they were simply the next step in a campaign that had started much earlier, in which Prince applied a "divide and conquer" strategy on fans. And the stupid thing is that plenty of fans were so eager to be Prince's BFF that they ratted out each other and backstabbed each other. © Bart Van Hemelen

Don't give a rat's ass whether Prince is straight, homosexual, bi, or from another planet! I'm not invested in his personal life--don't care. Some of his music I absolutely love, some I consider so-so! Whether I agree with him or not, I acknowledge the fact that he is a singular, individual artist, and I still dig his music and find it relevant to my jazz/funk inclinations. He is neither a Christ figure nor the Anti-Christ; he is a human being and we should just dig his music or not dig it! And that, should be the bottom line! (Not that it will be!) LOL   | |

Okay, before I can even get to Old Pro's post, I can't get past the insults you make to fans on both sides. That's where you are losing people. And I guess I don't agree that people who talk shit about Prince are obsessive. Some and I think, a very few, do it because they feel Prince has done some wrong to them personally. Others do it because it pisses the "fams" off. Some fans hold grudges a long time but so does Prince. I think you can be a fan and call someone on their bullshit without being labeled a hater.
All in all, I don't believe there is a single truly rational fan. He makes hypocrites of us all. Some of the same obsessive fans are some of the same ones that talked shit about the guy when he started suing websites. We clap and sing along when he makes songs against fans. We put up with business practices we wouldn't put up with from any other company. | |

That's not what I said..... I said the obsessive behavior on both sides is getting wacky....There are some folks who tell the truth about Prince and criticize the man when warranted...The LotusFlower site fiasco is an example...But we all know there's a difference between criticizing an artist and then criticizing an artist in an obsessive manner.... But here's the thing though...What do we really know about Prince?....This is the thing that folks on both sides don't seem to get...we like his records...But we don't know him in real life...To me that means to never get too high or low about the man.... Nah...there's rationale fans...A rationale fan understands that you don't live or die with the guy...That you don't place a person you never met too high or too low...That Prince is the same dude he was in the '80s and that he hasn't really changed one bit... If you (meaning the fans) tolerated his asshole behavior or complained about him not doing what you (the fans) want him to do when he was putting out those great records in the '80s, then why start 30 plus years into his career... To me, it works both ways..... | |
