For me this is an impossible question to answer-I

I usually rank Dirty Mind above Controversy, but not my much. They're sort of sister albums to me, but the rawer, more punk-ish vibe of Dirty Mind tips the scales in my opinion. Damn. Those were the glory days when albums were short and sharp. Like a brass-knuckled sucker punch to the face.

No album containing Ronny talk to Russia and Jack U Off can possibly trump an album containing Uptown, Head, Sister and Partyup, no matter how good the other songs on it are. "Maybe the cartridge U was playin'

I can't be the only one who loves those two songs. But, yeah Dirty wins. Purple Fact #542: Prince can make a Weeble™ fall down.

Oops. Ronnie Talk 2 Russia is my all time favourite P. track! But Sister is my second, so Controversy wins by a cunt hair.

I don't understand why (some) people don't like 'Jack U Off'...? Back then it was one of my fave Prince tracks from Controversy,

Dirty Mind 10 When U were Mine 10 Do It All Night 9 Gotta Broken heart Again 10 Uptown 10 Head 10 Sister 9 Party Up 9 77 Controversy 10 Sexuality 9 Do Me Baby 10 Private Joy 10 Ronnie Talk To Russia 9 Lets Work 10 Annie Christain 10 Jack U Off 9 77 A tie I'd give it to Dirty Mind because out of the 16 songs on the albums it has my favorite song on it in Uptown. here's my try: Dirty Mind 10 When U were Mine 10 Do It All Night 10 Gotta Broken heart Again 10 Uptown 10 Head 10 Sister 10 Party Up 9 79 Controversy 10 Sexuality 10 Do Me Baby 10 Private Joy 10 Ronnie Talk To Russia 7 Lets Work 10 Annie Christain 10 Jack U Off 9 76 Dirty Mind wins a minor victory... But still Controversy contains some fantastic songs as well. Hello... I'm Come funkateer 'Danceelectric'

I can't be the only one who loves those two songs. But, yeah Dirty wins. I loved the performance of Jack U Off during the Lovesexy tour Ronnie Talk 2 Russia for me just works, (dated?) yeah, sometimes u need that, it's definately what was happening at the time, and I think the songs represents the album subject well and New Wave. Tick Tick Bang right after Jack U Off or Sexuality would have really tipped the scales for Controversy And adding Lisa on Dirty Mind would have given that last extra punch Now where I come from

Controversy is my fvorite of the two. Making love and music are the only things worth fighting for.

Dirty Mind – 4:14 When You Were Mine – 3:47 Do It All Night – 3:42 Gotta Broken Heart Again – 2:16 Uptown – 5:32 Head – 4:44 Sister – 1:31 Partyup – 4:24
Controversy – 7:15 Sexuality – 4:21 Do Me, Baby – 7:43 Private Joy – 4:29 Ronnie, Talk to Russia – 1:58 Let's Work – 3:54 Annie Christian – 4:22 Jack U Off – 3:09 It is definitely hard...It's almost too hard to choose, in fact I almost chose "Dirty Mind," because I don't love the song, "Annie Christian." I like it but I do extremely love "Do me Baby," & "Private Joy," from "Controversy." so I'll go with "Controversy." I gotta give it up 4, "Do it all night," and "Gotta Broken Heart again," too. Nevermind...Just call it a tie. Last Night, I spent another lonely Christmas...Darlin' Darlin' U shoulda been there.~Prince.

Dirty Mind. Controvery halfway through lost the Dirty Mind sound.. I mean like Annie Christian could have fit on 1999. I like the striped down funk.... Do Me Baby, would have been great on anything. E.

Nothing on DM is as badass as the first 31 seconds of Controversy. Not Head. Not Uptown. Nothing. good thing I cook or else we'd starve to death...aint that a shame?

I like more songs on Dirty mind than Controversy so I'd have to say Dirty Mind. "You're just another part of me" MJ

Dirty Mind is probably the better album, the flow of it.

Tick Tick Bang right after Jack U Off or Sexuality would have really tipped the scales for Controversy And adding Lisa on Dirty Mind would have given that last extra punch I'd say replace Jack U Off with Tick Tick Bang. And I agree with adding Lisa onto Dirty Mind, it would really made the album really explosive. Controversy wins for me BTW.. Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

I really love both albums, but I think DM wins in terms of what it did for Prince's musical sound. Controversy is really a continuation of something great, but DM is the original and the beginning of his sound's evolution.

Dirty Mind. Music is tighter, lyrics are just a switch more daring, his vocal performance is his naughtiest & the raw demo approach is more creative. I believe in horns!

But "Controversy" and "Do Me Baby" are top notch songs. Hmm...tough choice. His recent version of Controversy on Canal+ was awesome! [Edited 10/31/09 15:00pm]
