Prince's music used to torture Guantanamo Bay inmates.

http://i2.cdn.turner.com/...c.list.pdf

The list above, obtained through the Freedom of Information Act and posted on CNN shows a list of 35 artists whose music was used to torture inmates at Guantanamo Bay.

Prince's music is included.

How do Prince fans feel about this.

How do you think Prince might feel about this?

Did you read The Men Who Stare At Goats?

Once all the jokes about Barney were out the way it's been more or less proved that this 'torture' method didn't have the desired effect.Indeed many of the artists were (unsurprisingly) deeply unhappy about their music being used in this way.

If I were Prince I'd be livid, he should leave off youtube/imeem/bootleggers/fans and send his lawyers in the direction of the Bush administration.

Personally, I would never think of Prince's music as torture.....well, except for "Wedding Feast."

I do find this funny though (and I don't see anything wrong with that)...

Personally, this is pretty mild as far as torture is concerned. I'm not in favor of torture (but I guess that depends on what is considered torture)... I see nothing wrong in making someone uncomfortable by playing them music that they may find annoying in order to get them to talk or to comply. Like I said, I'm not in favor of torture but this sounds pretty mild to me and I don't think it is such a big deal considering that the inmates are suspected terrorist.

Y´all seem to take this torture thing very lightly.....but sleep deprivation day after day is no joke, regardless of the music that´s being played. When you haven´t slept for days and they keep turning up the volume and the music is blaring out the speakers you can go insane. If I were Prince, I´d feel pissed that his music, his gift that he has been blessed to share with people, is used in this way. Instead of suing moms who film their babies dancing to Let´s Go Crazy, he should sue those who were responsible for misusing and abusing his music.

That's a good point.. now it makes sense they would use the material they used.
Prince knows this is an earth roamed and ruled by satan himself, he knows evil is inevitable and it's downright disgusting.
If I was him I don' know what good it would do to sue..

Considering the people in the prison are probably Islamic traditionalists (extreme), and shun anything modern media related, it could be Prince, or whoever, and it would irritate them.

I wonder if they made them watch the infamous Gett Off video remix that had prince in that funky swimsuit rolling around on skates. I'm sure that might have made some of them crack (lol).

All kidding aside though... Let's be real.. I am against torture but at the same time, I'm sure SOME of these people are probably terrorist and considering all the cruel things that can be done to someone, the "music torture" is on the mild side. I mean you can't expect the military to make it feel like they are at a country club or something. Same thing with the sleep deprivation. Yes I agree that stuff is no joke but it sounds a hell of a lot better than attaching some electric shock cables to your genitals or doing a little Dick Cheney approved water boarding... Let's keep in mind these people are suspected of plotting to do harm to America.

True but what about those who were innocent and were kept there for more than a couple of years and who just happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time?
They have lost years of their lives that they are never going to get back.

LOL....great thread

I heard most of the inmates could not make it through the first half of Planet Earth.

I remember when I used to work at a record store. My manager liked country music. I used to play 'Straight Outta Compton' just to get on his nerves.

KoolEaze, I understand what you are saying... Unfortunately, I think in situations like that there will always be a few innocent people that get mistaken for terrorists... HOWEVER, that being said, the whole "music torture" thing will probably make them very uncomfortable, maybe a few headaches, but as far as torture goes, that's very mild and they will recover from it and not have lifelong scars, as opposed to the crueler options I mentioned earlier. What do you want the military to do? Just simply ask them for info? That's unrealistic. Of course it sucks that some innocents get caught up in this but that will always happen, it even happens to regular people in the U.S. falsely accused of crimes. Music torture is fine by me, they will survive.

I'm disgusted that they used torture. Torture belongs in dictatorships, not democracies. It's really sad that they used Prince's music. I hope he would be sad too.

Do you realize you can die from sleep deprivation? It can also cause hallucinations, depression, heart disease, hypertension, decrease immunities, the brain's ability to function deteriorates, and it effects hormone levels in the body. It's not a "mild" form of torture as it can effect the mental, physical, and emotional aspects of a person. And again, extreme sleep deprivation can result in death. Imagine the mental anguish these individuals went through, never being able to escape sound, audio stimulation to the brain, not even in sleep.

Once sleep deprivation has set in, the lost sleep can never be made up. Research has also shown that by being chronically sleep deprived, one is shortening their life.

Torture is disgusting but Prince couldn't sue, nobody is making money out of it, which all seems very depressing. Asisde from this the list actually looks quite mainstream-as if the guards have put their Ipod on and killed two birds with one stone. It's all very grim

I'm totally against torture! And Prince needs to get with the other artists and raise some serious hell! He's always going on and freaking on about protecting his image, well if there was ever a time for his special brand of histrionics, it's now!

That being said, I did have a fleeting thought a while back of Prince working for the CIA on torture music. It was the only way I could explain Bria's CD! evillol

There is no real torture on that list. Torture would be being exposed to James Blunt and "You're beautiful" 24/7. God, I would beg for the bullet, if they did that to me.
