Gotta Stop (Messin' About)

I am SOOOOO cross. The UK 12" of this went on ebay for quite a bit less than I was willing to pay and JUST as I'm putting in a juicy bid, on the confirm your bid page, seconds before the end, my darn internet connection went... coming back on miliseconds after it ended.

The ONE Prince single that has always eluded either my searches or $$ capabilities!

NUTS.

hug Better Luck next time.
Prince did an interview with a woman at Record World. They talked about whatever, then he asked her: "Does your pubic hair go up to your navel?" At that moment, we thought maybe we shouldn't encourage him to do interviews.

Yep, that's what I have too. This is one of my favorite b-sides by Prince. Great song.

Erm, actually I have that too. However, it was released as an A-side in the UK and after NOT buying it for 50 pence (what a doofus) in a Welsh flea-market in about 84 it's been an ambition of sorts to get the UK single.

Which is silly, as I don't especially like the song.

Yeah that's true. It was released as an A-side. Do you remember when it was initially released? How well did it do there? Decent amount of airplay?

There are 2 UK 12" records for this:

They both cost me a pretty penny too.

There is also a US 12" promo for the song (this didn't cost me near as much as the UK ones):

Everytime this song comes up, I think it's worth asking: Does anyone have any guesses as to what he's singing in the line after "Hey, was it good, boy?"

I just had a bid on a 7" (face picturesleeve). It was kinda rushed because I hadn't seen it untill a few hours before it ended. But I thought "what the heck" bidded and won the auction. Jippee!

But, I was ready to pay, when I saw that the auctioner mentioned somewhere "special promotion" and I thought, just to make sure, why not ask her (as it turned out) what country it came from.

And sure enough it was from France, she had used the photograph of an official release to sell an unofficial release (collectors will know the difference). I could slap myself on the head for not being more inquisitive first time around.
So contacted the seller again and explained the situation politely, trusting this was a genuine error on her part. But she was upset, and demanded that I paid up, for her (almost worthless) 7". And there would be repurcussions, and called me typical Dutch (like it was something to be cursed over, ha), etc, whole bunch of unpoliteness came out.So I contacted eBay, explained them the situation and they advised me not to pay and where going to investige. Ofcourse I will not pay up for something that is most propably illegal, and definately not the 7" I was lured into bidding on.

I will try to keep track of this 7" in case it pops up on ebay again by the same seller, and eventuelly warn people here if it still contains the same (wrong) picture sleeve. Funny thing was she had a whole bunch of other 7" singles for sale, with real scans or foto's of here own. Only for this one she used another foto, than one of the actual object.

But still I"m mad about myself for not seeing the inconsistancies in the auction.

^^ Yeah there is a bootleg of Gotta Stop with Horny Toad on the B side. The 'face sleeve' 7" is the rarest version of this release.

That red 12" showed up at my local record shop and they put it on the wall and priced it at like 25 bucks, maybe less...

How much were you bidding for it?

It went for twice that, and I was trying to bid $10 more when the connection screwed me over.

It still there? Wanna grab it for me? lol
