12" Test Pressing • USA • 28399 Sign "O" The Times (Bailey Edit 6:32) Sign "O" The Times (King/Lemon Re Edit 6:36) Do these mixes exist? The scan looks pretty convincing... That's interesting. Never heard of these. Purple Fact #542: Prince can make a Weeble™ fall down.

Looks like it's probably an unoffical DJ mix or something.

I didn't think Sleevographia was prone to add unofficial items to their listings. Purple Fact #542: Prince can make a Weeble™ fall down.

I didn't think Sleevographia was prone to add unofficial items to their listings. Yeah thats what I thought too. From what I heard years ago, they were pressed as test pressings and then the remixes were aborted.. I just want to hear them... There is a picture of the sleeve on the site too... Looks like a scan to me.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I didn't think Sleevographia was prone to add unofficial items to their listings. Well, they've had unofficial items on there before. The reasons why it's almost certainly not offical are... 1. It's pressed by Artisan... I've never seen any offical WB Prince items use this pressing plant before (just look at all the other test pressings and actetates shown on the site and elsewhere). 2. It's dated 3/29/87... a month and a half AFTER Sign O' The Times had already been released as a single! (a true test pressing or acetate would HAVE to be dated prior to the record's release) .

I have seen this happen before, the original version is released with full length album version with a B Side and then later, dance mixes come out for clubs.. Perhaps Prince didn't like the remixes and felt the song's message was important to be heard..Maybe he felt the track wasn't appropriate as a remix.. He would save that for Hot Thing... Just a theory.. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I'm pretty sure these mixes were on a boot a few years ago...they were heavy handed re-edits.

Just a theory.. No, that's way too late for a remix to be released. Even when the record company decides to stagger the release or release 2 12"s, this would still all have been sorted out well in advance of the release date. There's no way an acetate dated a month and a half after the commercial release date would ever be seriously intended for release. .

Good points. I'm sure you're correct - something doesn't smell right with this acetate. I noticed that Sleevographia has a Fake page dedicated to things like this, but since it wasn't linked to that page made me wonder about this particular item. The Sleevographia folks don't answer their emails, so it's hard to question their motivation behind stuff like this. Anyone ever heard these mixes? The first thing I did was check the fake listings at Sleevographia. As stated, it's not there.

I'm confused as to why this is even a question. We know the remixes that came out with most any song, especially from the 80's. Ernest L Sewell, IV
