Boot Appreciation Does anyone agree or disagree with the point of view that having Prince boots in your collection take away from the appreciation or the appreciation of his music? Peace & Stay Funky [Live4Love] ... ~* NPG Member 4 Life *~

For me, there are album versions of songs that I might not be totally fond of for one reason or the other, but often times w/ Prince the live version is miles above the album version. I also find it interesting the order of songs he puts together in his set lists. Most times, before he started doing greatest hits tours, the tour really enveloped the album. The mood of the album was put forth in the concert. Lovesexy, SOTT, Purple Rain, Hit N Run 86....all good examples of that. It made me appreciate the album(s) even more. I GOT his vision of an album. SOTT was gritty and dirty. Lovesexy was spiritual, a rebirth. Purple Rain was a party. etc etc. Having a bootleg of a show is a good thing. As far as outtakes, the same theory of "mood" applies sometimes. We can hear the original ideas behind an album like Parade when we hear songs like "Old Friends 4 Sale" (a personal song, but still relatively coherent w/ the movie), All My Dreams (which TOTALLY should have been the ending song in the movie), Others Here With us, etc. We can also hear the attitude he was wearing at the time he recorded these groups of songs. A lot of protege songs reflected his musical mood at the time as well. The Family could never duet on "Erotic City" or "Nasty Girl", but totally nailed things like "Mutiny" or "High Fashion". Apollonia couldn't pull off singing "Mia Bocca", but Jill could. Ernest L Sewell, IV

I've always looked at them as unofficial albums so they have made me more of a fan of his music over the years. Finding unreleased track boots back in the day was exciting and felt like Prince was dropping a new album every month. Now I look forward to the live concerts that pop up from time to time. I especially enjoy finding a live show where I was actually in attendance for my collection. I've got a new thread and a dildo 4 U. If U don't like the new thread then U can go fuck yourself!

Quite the opposite. This gentleman pretty much sums up why fans seek what Prince will not give us himself:

Being appreciative of bootleg recordings is unAmerican: You infringe on the rights and unrealised monetary gains of the musican, performer and whatever. All of these things are protected far, far into the future for the benefit of the corporations.

Maybe he cares so much because, as Squirrelgrease's article shows, he's the Bootlegged King. "You're just another part of me" MJ
