Yeah,Sign O' The Times Is Prince Best Album.

The album doesn't have any flaws. Straight for the mature people,"If I Was Your Girlfriend" is my jam. "Adore" is for my girlfriend lol,it's just a classic album.

NO, It's not. ATWIAD is FAR superior. SOTT is an utter piece of crap.

Got anymore original threads up your sleeve?

^ Thank you, I heart that thread. cool

still... Purple Rain beats SOTT as the most "ultimate Prince album", imo.

but SOTT is the next best, an incredible #2 on my list, a brilliant piece of work... 10/10.

Why can't Prince make music like this no more.. question neutral

Because he's moved on from singing about pussy and sex all the time. He's matured and moved on from that. Face it.

I didn't speak about pussy, Amerigo biggrin

I'm speaking about nerve in the music:

what is there to face....? Prince has "moved on"? Well not imo... more likely he has lost his inspiration.

- a lot of average/ boring albums since The Gold Experience..... only a few truly great songs here and there since '95...

I personally think that Purple Rain barely edges out Sign, but I can't begrudge anyone for claiming that Sign is the best.

More statements like this 662 and people might start to think that you are growing up.

I have to agree that "purple Rain" edges out "sign o' the times".....anyone who says that "sign" is a piece of crap isn't a prince fan!!

I definitely think it has flaws ('Beautiful Night') and 'Forever In My Life' only exists due to a flaw.
Personally it's not Prince's best album. 'Crystal Ball' is for me.

The things/people/politics/loves that influenced him then are no longer present. Sign O' The Times the song was a musical newspaper for that time and the breakup of the Revolution also factored into the music. He's a lot more stable now in his life and not surrounded by as many colorful folks as back in the eighties. There have been flashes of that current influence showing up from time to time (United States Of Division, Supercute, Dreamer, Better With Time). these songs in my opinion show a reflection on what was around him at that time period.
When eye go 2 a Prince concert or related event it's all heart up in the house but when eye log onto this site and the miasma of bitchiness is completely overwhelming!

Easily his best with songs like
Adore
Forever in my life
If I was your girlfriend
Starfish and Coffee
ICNTTPOYM
The Cross
Sign o the Times
Housequake
Strange Relationship

Its hard to deny, so many classic songs on one album
So what are u going 2 do? R u just gonna sit there and watch? I'm not gonna stop until the war is over. Its gonna take a long time

Completely missed my point. I was saying that this thread title is about as original as stating that PR was his biggest selling record.

That being said, I DO think SOTT is a bit overrated whereas ATWIAD is exactly the opposite;the songwrting and musicianship on that record are SO much better than on SOTT! (SOTT is a very good record though, just a first example of not being able to FOCUS)

It's a good one but the best (?) that's hard to judge, they're all good in different ways. I prefer the title track of SOTT than "Purple Rain" because PR has been over exposed. But the PR album is still the landmark for me, even though I find his later music better. The flow on PR was incredible for that moment in time. Quite unique.

It's a good album, but for me "Parade" is his best, and there are others better than "Sign". My feeling is that "Sign" fizzles out just past he half way point of each disk - I stop it as soon as "Starfish and Coffee" finishes on disk 1, and at the end of "I Could Never..." on disk 2. And I've never liked "Adore" at all.

Purple Rain was on a whole different level than Sign but SOTT had the verve that PR did not have.
