D'Angelo Cant Touch Prince "She's Alawys In My Hair"

i won't lie dawg, prince's version is 2 times better, more like 4 times, but this is funky tho...i really don't think anyone can do prince's music better than him...the reason being is because prince made that music specifically for him, i mean that song "she's always in my hair" was a personal song...he was speaking of someone...a lot of people don't know that...prince's b-sides were personal songs....seriously...peace

I agree. I like Prince's version better. This song is one of many that shows his genious. Its a shame that many people have never heard it. D'Angelo is one of the most overhyped artist ever. How can he be so good if it takes him so long to release an album and it still sound average. Sorry, I know there're a lot of D'Angelo fans on here but its just the way I feel.
Prince believes he is a musical prophet that has been chosen by Jehova to guide his fans to the "truth".

D'Angelo is definitely very talented, but I agree, he can't touch Prince on this track. Give me the extended mix of She's Always In My Hair and I'm set. Once the bass drum starts doing 16th notes towards the end, I'm in heaven.

cool

Its actually a really good cover but I nearly always give the nod to the originals and this is no different.

Anyone have any info about the collaboration between P and D'Angelo for his forthcoming (yeah, I know!) album?

Obvoiusly Prince's is way better. But D'Angelo didn't remake it to compete with Prince's version. Also D'Angelo's version is good too.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

e

the thing about covers and this cover in particular
if the songs has some personal connection to the creator of it, someone who covers it will never be able to reproduce the affect

She's Always In My Hair is about a friend/friend with benifits and studio and touring singer Jill Jones

D'Angelo would not be able to understand what ...Always in My Hair, Whenever I feel like giving up, whenever my sunshine turns to rain, ...means

<-- prefers D'angelo's version. You get a real, "brothas trippin' in the studio" vibe from it. It's grittier than the original.

I like both versions D'angelo's IS alittle more gritty.

But out of all the artist I've ever heard since Prince's debut D'angelo is THE ONLY ONE IMO who really evokes Prince in a serious no B.S. manner. Just the way he layes down the lead & multiple background vocals and the dangerously effective falsetto. The song Roots & Higher & Send It ON all stank (in a good way)with Princes influence.

Not saying he's more talented than Prince I don't think too many black artist are on his level unless you travel over to the gospel arena.Because ALOT of them are multi instrumentalist arrangers, producers, some of which have actually studies music.

D'angelo is pretty good when it comes to doing covers he's mastered the sound and has done a good job of every cover he's recorded.

When you consider Prince’s complete utter crap attempts at covers over the years ... I think D'angelo’s cover is not bad at all.
