East - Appreciation

WOAHHHH! I've had NEWS for a while now but never gave it more than a listen or two. East starts out fairly calm but it grows into some kind of monster.

It sounds like something I'd hear on a Mars Volta record with a little bit of a nu-metal KoRn type vibe, all while definitely sounding like Prince!

I know y'all don't dig NEWS to much but this track is definitely something I'll be putting on a brooding rock type mix CD real soon. headbang headbang headbang

i'm listening to it right now eek

love it. especially that 'asian spiritual' vibe in the middle with
what sounds like a funked up harpsichord.

I never thought about it that way eek

I wonder if his stylistic interpretations on each track reflects an actual flavor from a certain part of the world, or if that was coincidental hmmm

I've never listened to any of those tracks all the way through. I got through about 3 minutes of each one, and that was it.....in 2003.

N.E.W.S brings out some interesting soloing stuff in my opinion.
When it comes to East I really dig J. Blackwell's drum work, excellent!
My fave tracks are definitely West and the first 5 mins of South.

Glad to see that people have love for N.E.W.S. I wish he would put out another one. I dig N.E.W.S. better than the Madhouse joints.

since every song has about 3 to 4 different movements that sound like they
are individual, seperate tracks, you're missing out imo.

it's a very good album. but i can see why a lot of people might not like it.

i keep hoping for more releases like that. he could put them out low key
on his website or through mail order.

since NEWS was reportedly recorded in 1 day, he could surprise us with a
lot more of this good stuff.

i, for one, would be waving my cc nod
