LP Scores For The Day

Last Vestige is an awesome used wreka stow here in my area. LPs, 12", CDs, $1 albums, all kinds of rare and old stuff. I always head to the vinyl bin and look for Prince stuff. I scored some goodies today.

First, some 12" promos:
1999 b/w Free, Automatic - $2.00 (no purple cover, white cover with PRINCE outline from 1999 album on top)

Pop Life b/w Pop life - $2.00 (purple cover on front)

Gotta Stop (Messin' About) / Partyup (Edit) b/w Head, WHen You Were Mine, Uptown - $2.00 In a generic WB sleeve

I Would Die 4 U b/w I Would Die 4 U - $2.00 (purple cover on front)

Take Me With U b/w Take Me With U - $2.00 (purple cover on front)

Let's Pretend We're Married, D.M.S.R. b/w Automatic - $3.00 (white cover with PRINCE on top, similar to Dirty Mind font)

Then...

Glam Slam b/w Escape 12" single - $2.00

And one of the two big scores:
Controversy album, complete with a MINT SHOWER POSTER - $15 (this is a promo copy with a gold stamp on the front. I assume the poster came with the regular album, no? I am not sure. Please advise.)

Lovesexy TRACKED CD - $6.00 (I had a weird feeling about the CD when I saw it next to Musicology for $4.00 (over priced of course LOL) and I thought, "Hmmm, I wonder if this is tracked?" Not sure why I thought that. But I didn't see the "Songs Are In A Continuous Sequence" on it anywhere either. I took it to one of the listening stations and voila...tracked CD. Doesn't seem to be the German copy either, as far as the WB logos and copyright, etc. Was it later released as a tracked CD in the US? I never knew. Please advise)

Also picked up Janet's 1984 Dream Street album (with the Jesse Johnson "Fast Girls" track) on CD.

The total was about $45 or so with tax. The guy said "Wow, someone's having a Prince house party tonight." He mentioned that the bass player in his band is a Prince fan and he's "never been in his friend's car without Prince playing." I pointed to my friend and said "Ditto for him." haha I told him the Controversy album and Lovesexy CD were great collector things, and I couldn't pass them up.

I have a couple other of those purple cover 12" promos from the PR era. I think I have "Purple Rain" and it's on purple vinyl too, and I paid like $6.00 for it.

They had SOTT, Dirty Mind, Parade, and a couple of other albums in the bin. Vanity's albums and the V6 album, and the 12" for "Sex Shooter". I don't know where they get their stuff, but I never fail to find some goodies in there.

It looks to be a Promo Copy for the US.

Those are all US promos. Nice score for those prices too! It took me years to finally collect all the US promos. Now I'm looking to upgrade a few like the one for "Head", I don't have the original sleeve. Also the yellow vinyl of "Sexy MF", same thing, not in the original sleeve. I finally got the last two I needed this year when I got "I wish u heaven" and "Partyman". Careful Ernest, it's a sickness lol

Yes. It's a promo, as noted.

All of the US retail Controversy LPs had the shower poster.

The Lovesexy CD is European. Telling the difference between the US and Euro CDs at first glance is difficult. If I remember correctly, the Euro CD will have a more italicized script for the catalog number, and is slightly larger. The disc itself may have an LC on it, too. While the WB CDs were out of print in the US last year, many shops ordered the Euro discs to have some stock on their shelves. I still see the Euro Lovesexy in the bins here because of that.
If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

The catalog number is in a script on the CD jacket (not the inlay). However, I found something rather interesting. Under the track listing in the CD jacket, it says that the songs are in a continuous sequence, and gives a total time. It's in the same script as the track listing. But just to double check, I put it in my computer, and it is indeed tracks. It does say it was made in the USA too. Either way, I'm happy to have a tracked one.

I love the Controversy promo album w/ poster more.

I'm pretty sure that the tracked Euro CDs say "continuous sequence" even though they obviously aren't. Your Made In The US may in fact be a promo (nice!), but I'm surprised that there isn't a gold "Promo Only" stamp on the booklet.

When I first met my wife back in High School, her stepdad ripped down her Controversy poster from her bedroom wall. She was hella pissed. Sometime later, me and her were at Target looking through the vinyl records. I glance over and she's opening a fresh copy of Controversy and taking out the poster. I'm all "What the hell are you doing?". She's all "I need a new one." Cripes, I woulda gave her my poster, since we both had the record - I wasn't gonna hang that thing up.

So I'm married to a High School shoplifter.

Cuz I can't let all my secrets out to the likes of you! haha

Last Vestige, BITCH, is on Quail St. right off Central Ave a couple of blocks. I don't know their address, but they're online. It's a cool little shop. Back on Central is Blue Note Records, which is supposed to be cool, but I've never been in there.

And don't let me find you up in my city, lest I meet you and fight you over a Prince LP or sumfin'.

Another question to whoever about the Lovesexy tracked CD. I noticed there are fades at the end of songs like "Eye No", and "Lovesexy" before it goes into the next song. Kind of irritating to create a false fade on a song. This happen to anyone else's tracked Lovesexy CD?
