Shouldn't we just be glad we can listen to Prince's music and that he is still making music....................

.....rather than getting pissed he isn't as big as he used to be and comparing him to certain other artists *cough* Michael Jackson *cough*?
Also (trying not to rant here) i posted a subject about Black Sweat and why people think it didn't do better in 2006 and had comments saying teenagers were ageist and don't want to see prince in the charts... i mean madonna got to #7 with hung up in 2005... and she was born the same year as prince... just saying:)

Just talking to some prince fans here of course smile

The older I get the more I like making my own music. I may not be the world's best singer, but hey...!

I don't think most of his fans care about his age. The problem is the vast majority of his output in the last decade has been positively tepid.

certainly beats a whole bunch of overly compressed, auto-tuned-to-fuck, suicidally non-pre-prescribed-serotonine-enhanced audio mulch of rampantly egotistical bullshit designed expressly for hardcore drug users to pay no attention to in the slightest.

I swear, times got so very bad that even hiphop exists as a mere pineal gland injection rather than a genuine sway.

Correct me if i'm correct.

I think it may have been hard for fans to understand over the years post 1998 that maybe he's tried real hard to change his sexual image, maybe the focus is now on the music than the Prince antics of the past.

Who knows people change as they get more mature...while some decisions are questionable to the outside world for him it could be (speculation only) being true to what he now believes is important.

I like your way of thinking L0tusFl0w3r. nod It was amusing to read the replies to the "Black Sweat" thread. Prince is his own man and should be viewed as such. What was done in the 80's was done in the 80's. We won't get that back and we don't need that back either. I want Prince to keep on doing what he's doing and to keep getting better at his craft in the process. With Michael Jackson's death a month ago (that's something isn't it?), I am more appreciative of Prince and his music than I've ever been. I am grateful that he's still here making music and performing for us. He's a flawed person but so are you. So am I. Even with the warts and all, as long as he keeps sharing his music with us, I'm going to be a fan and I'm going to support him in all that he does. Period, end of discussion.
I'm not a fan of "old Prince". I'm not a fan of "new Prince". I'm just a fan of Prince. Simple as that

Is it really reasonable to expect one man who has written over 3000 songs in his time to be able to re-create the same ground breaking music he released early on without repeating himself?

To be honest I'm suprised his recent music is as good as it is, most people would be fresh out of ideas after 100 songs! People really should appreciate Prince's newer music more, especially in comparison to what's out today.

I appreciate the fact that Prince keeps on releasing new material.
I think though that He often gets ideas and "rushes" his projects...I think that if he came up with an idea and really took his time and I mean took it real slow...he could come up with some earth shattering music...many times some songs sound like something thrown to gether to take up space on the album.....Don't get me wrong I love his Music I just think his greatest music is still lurking within him and he's moving much to fast to find it.

Keep in mind that Madonna is still very much a part of the system that Prince broke off from ages ago. I think the fact that he's not required to make music by a contract and yet he still does is a gift and a blessing. Most artists don't hit the studio until the next cd is due. He doesn't have a new set release date to meet and it's all up to him to stop today or keep going.

Thank U Prince 4 all the music and keep it going for the true funk soldiers out here!

I hear what you are saying with that and I do think that there is a masterpiece still in him but with that said, does all of Prince's music have to be "earth-shaterring?" That's what gets me with so many people in here, they want Prince to be like he was on 1999. That was 27 years ago. I just want him to make music that I can enjoy listening to. If it doesn't make the music world go nuts, that's ok. As long as it's worth a damn and for me, it is, I'll be excited. Again, please don't think I'm not knocking what you are saying cause I'm not. If the next CD is groundbreaking, then that'll be incredible. I know for me, I'm not looking for that, well not anymore and it's made listening to Prince's current stuff that much more fun for me.

I wonder what song is rattling in some fans heads that they are waiting for Prince to compose that will be groundbreakingly, earth shaterringly, chart topping and if they could compose it themselves and ask Prince to record it.

Someone posted on here that most fans have this "fantasy Prince album" playing in their heads and are waiting for it to materialize out of thin air or telepathy.

ha ha that is just way too hard for folks!

Many ORGERS/Fans will never be satisfied, no matter what Prince does or doesn't do.

The way I see it Lotus would have been shitted on whether he release 3 cd's and two videos or release 7 cd's and 18 more videos, and short movie and access to a live 'house' concert via the site. It just wouldn't satisfy. Or what he picked to be release wasn't worth 77 dollars.

I don't give a shit what else is out today. I can't stand most new music. I only judge Prince against himself. Any other comparison is pointless. I'm not saying his newer stuff is all bad. Most of it, to me, is just uninspiring. If he had one good album and made 20 that were lackluster you'd have to call it a fluke and deal. Prince has got many fabulous albums, so it's not like I'm expecting a miracle out of the man. I don't care if it's the most innovative or ground-breaking or any other such rubbish. I just want a new album from Prince where after listening to it I can say "Hell yes, now that's why I'm still a Prince fan." Until then I have hope.

When everyone was craving "Purple Rain 2" and he didn't give it to them they flipped but over time he has released similar sounding tracks and those same people weren't impressed.

During Prince & the Revolution LIVE he asked the audience, "if I gave it 2 U what would U do with it?"
Truer words were never spoke...
Nobody knows what they want from Prince and we all want something different than the person next to us at the concert.

I do find it weird that people take their time to moan about Prince's music online. I mean why not spend the time positively doing something else, if Prince's music no longer does it for you? There's lots of music out there, why not try someone else?

I look forward to every Prnce release. It's always an event and I'll buy whatever he does. The fact that he's still making music should be celebrated, not moaned about because it doesn't quite hit the innovation threshold that some people desire. Those of us lucky enough to experience him live know that he can still thrill and inspire, he still conjures excitement and wonder. And in every release there will be something new, whether it's an entire song, a fragment, a phrase, that proves that he's still searching for something better. Still moving forwards. We should be glad for all that.

I strongly disagree. I think the last decade has been great.

I think the 1990's saw him lose his way trying to keep popular by following trends and making music he thought would be popular. Even though there were still plenty of great songs recorded.

This decade I think he's played to his strength's and mostly left alone the hip hop and the comptemorary RnB and also released some really excellent stuff.

For me I am fine with Prince not cursing now. The thing that I don't like is when he edits his old music. Cursing may not be a part of who he is now but it was then. He shouldn't be ashamed of that or try to hide from it.

I don't care if he is 'big' or not, i just 'wish' he delivers the quality of music he is capable off.

And IMO he is underachieving since .. lets say 1995 (or...was it 1988?).

The reason why i keep interested in his career is that I know what he is capable off, and that he has showed it ocassionally since on his records. He also remains a very good live-artist, despite some very mediocre albums.

But i don't keep my mouth shut, when i think a lot of his later album, like New Power Soul and MPLsound are shit.

I love him for the music (he is capable off), but i am not going to make it more 'nice', just because i am fan...or fam.. whatever.

Not at all. I'm fine with his current output, so it's not my cross to bear. When I listen to his 80's output, I hear a young man, hard at work with all manner of demons to wrestle with.

Lately, I hear a man at peace who happens to outplay anyone anywhere, never mind how well his voice has held up at 51.

I leave it at that.

I don't really care if teenagers want to hear Prince.I mean I think it's really cool to see younger fans discover him, but that's the extent of it for me. It isn't a concern of mine.

What I do care about is hearing music that is free-spirited, inspired and groundbreaking (what made me fall in love with him as an artist back in the 80's in the first place).
