$25 each - pretty steep. They are cool though!

If these were the remastered versions, I might consider it.

They sound slightly better. You can really hear the difference with a good pair of headphones.

How do they sound without headphones? I want to be able to play these in my car. If they still sound shitty, then forget about it.

I really doubt that they will sound any better than the US pressed CDs in an environment such as a car. There is no remastering on these discs, so better sound is either a placebo effect or from the fact that Japanese pressed CDs usually have higher attention paid to quality control.

With these 1980's era Prince discs, even Japanese WB pressed CDs have to be heard with headphones just to tell the difference from the US and Euro manufactured silvers. There's no OMG moment of clarity.

A person will probably be able to download these SHMs very shortly on torrent sites in a lossless format. You'll be hard-pressed to be able to tell any difference, since the whole SHM "enhancement" comes from the plastic that is used to coat the CDs, and not the data layer. So once the data is ripped and made into AIFF, FLAC, WAV, MP3 etc., the "enhancement" is moot (although, in theory, these copies should retain the "better" sound quality because there was supposedly less laser scatter during playback).

If they were remastered, I'd be first in line. The packaging is seemingly superb. I'm surprised that they even included the posters.

I've read that some versions of ATWIAD had the balloon boy sticker included inside - is that true? I remember trying so hard to keep the cellophane intact back then, and then even trying to preserve that sticker on its own.

Another interesting thing is that you never see that balloon graphic on any digital version of the ATWIAD cover.

I bought some of Springsteen's Japanese cardboards a couple of months ago. You should see the Live 1975/85 box. It's..... so nice!

I know my ATWIAD vinyl didn't include the balloon boy sticker inside. Sleevographia is down, so I can't look it up. Some countries had the balloon boy artwork printed on the jacket and not affixed to the cellophane. There was an Australian promo sticker of the balloon boy. I don't know if it was a counter freebie, or if it was included in promo LPs.

I do still trim the stickers attached to the shrink-wrap on my CDs and tuck them into the booklets. Kinda nerdy, but what the hell. lol

I wish I had purchased the first run of ATWIAD on CD back in the day and got that cool 6"x12" cardboard fold-out longbox. Those things are super hard to find in decent condition.

I really dig the paisley lettering on all the ATWIAD stuff - album, singles, even the Paisley Park logo itself. The execution of that album's artwork was superb - taking a mural and using different images for each single? Brilliant.

I also like how on PR and ATWIAD he had different fonts for each song - kinda like a hint at what was to come. Small touch, but neat.

They look pretty sexy, but I'll wait for proper remasters.

BTW, CDJapan are a great online retailer, used them for years for imports and Jpop, but YesAsia.com are also selling these, and they do free international shipping (also used them loads in the past) smile

Woulda been nice though, if it had been split in 2 discs, you know for extra authenticity!

These look like they have been manufactured with such care and attention to detail. I can only hope that one day we do get remastered CDs from Warner Bros produced with the same effort.

Well, I see everybody's is dying for a good review and I hope I can provide one with this message. I bought all 10 of them last week and received them today. Now, first a nice cup of coffee, all the old cd-releases in line for the player and the new SHM-ones. Boy, I didn't know what hit me! I'm really confused why everybody's/some people are saying: oh, they sound slightly better. What do you mean? They sound awesome! I picked some tracks which I thought would depict a real good difference compared to the old releases. So, songs like DMSR, Little Red Corvette, Tambourine, America, Temptation, Darling Nikki, Sexuality, Controversy, It, Hot Thing - man, it's sheer heaven. The funk comes blasting through my stereo. Then, when I play the old ones, it sort of stays in the box and distant (I'm sorry, I don't know what better way to describe it). Now, people, I'm not at all an audiophile or an expert on these matters, but even my ears hear they sound way better than the 80's cd. BUY THEM! I'm honest when I say I bought them for the paper-sleeves in the first place as I get a real 80's feeling with that: just like when you bought the original album. They all look absolutely smashing: all cd's were miticuously reproduced like the original, so yes: Controversy with shower-poster (!), 1999 with 2 inner sleeves although all 11 tracks are on 1 cd, Purple Rain with poster, Around The World with original back-side flap, Sign O' The Times with the most adorable little peach postcard + blue heart-shaped sticker (not attached to the sleeve), all the releases have their original inner-sleeves, etc. Even the sleeves themselves are like the old ones: Lovesexy with shiny effect, but f.e. Controversy has a matt finish. So, everything's been taken into account - just the way us fans like it. Now, I know, the price-tag is the cliffhanger for most people. I paid $300 for mine, but I'm really really glad I bought them. If any ?, please mail me. I'm happy to answer any ?

The original thread will probably lock itself shortly, due to it's age.
