Well we know that he recorded "All Night, All Day" on June 4, 1984 at the Warehouse. We've seen the video, and have documentation. We also know he was rehearsing for the birthday party, playing songs we'd never heard before (or since). The Family was also rehearsing and recording. He also completed the Apollonia 6 album. Silver Star for you, Ernest, and your documents. Could you sound less interested? "All Day, All Nite" was indeed recorded in early June. If you, and whoever "we" represents have seen it and heard it, then perhaps this show isn't for you. Fair enough, but don't spoil it for those who don't have your "documentation". What would you rather we do? Keep your headphones on.

It's just conversation, my man. "We" are those who have that delicious video of Prince in the Warehouse rehearsing the birthday show for later that night, and also recording "All Day, All Nite", and doing that silly jig he does. LOVEZ that video. Ernest L Sewell, IV

That's cool, Ernest. I didn't mean any harm either, and I'm not here to beef! You sounded like one of those "You can't show me anything, I'm an expert" type folk. If we've got nothing new to show you, that's totally cool. Nothing we're doing tonight is anything new to me either - but it might be to someone.

Not at all. I do have one small decision yet to make about tonight's show tho. Care to help me decide?

Shoot. OK. Re: Computer Blue. "Hallway Speech" version, which is not the greatest quality (although I think I have the best circulating and longest copy) or the previous take, which is missing overdubs (and just has the band jamming, where the monologue would be) - I have this in GREAT quality, but it's not quite as exciting. My thought is to go with sound quality ... but the hallway speech version seems to be everyone's holy grail, if they've never heard it before. What do you think? I would have done a poll here, but I don't want to draw that much attention to "unofficial" material. Keep your headphones on.

There's something more funky and raw about it. Yeah, it's missing the hallway speech, but the basic groove of the song is so much less polished and is almost like listening them to do the original take of it in the Warehouse, pre-overdubs. Not all the trinkets on the show have to be the final or whatever versions. I think that one (wasn't it on the 30 years of Unreleased Funk set too?) really shows Prince and The Revolution just being who they were - awesome musicians. PS It's "EDT" not "EST". Eastern DAYLIGHT Time right now. We're not in Eastern STANDARD Time right now. [Edited 6/26/09 18:07pm] Ernest L Sewell, IV

Suprise everyone and go with the 84' b-day show.... Or any cuts from the old Mojo tapes that he used to do in the day.

Not sure if it's the stream quality, but I am not sure if this was the version of "Computer Blue" I was thinking of. Hard to tell. Still a fab song. Ernest L Sewell, IV

I'll be back with more special Prince & Prince related shows like this one, digging deep into the catalog, in the future. I did have my aim on, but I might have had it set to "list only" - I'll fix that in the future too. Ernest: Yeah, I was going to include the 30 Years V of Computer Blue but in the end the rawness of the Warehouse version wins for me. [Edited 6/26/09 23:37pm] Thank you, thank you!! Yep, I usually don't use a mic, as my Friday nite shows are usually a non-stop mix. Switched it out 3/4s of the way through. Thanks again, folks. Keep your headphones on.
