Sex Shooter - Apollonia 6

Hi all,

I'm meticulously going through my iPod and making sure each song has it's correct title/album name etc. But I've come unstuck at the 7 minute version of Sex Shooter - Apollonia 6. I've bought plenty of Prince CDs/merchandise in my time but this song I obtained from the internet - naughty I know but I couldn't find it anywhere else. My question is - was it ever available on a single (so I should credit the 'album' to Sex Shooter [Single]? Or was it just available on a promo (SS [Promo]?

And what is it's official title, please? I've seen 'Dance Mix', 'Extended Version' and 'Long Version' all used in relation to a 6 minute 45 second version but this one is definitely 7 minutes on the dot.

Any help much appreciated! Yours hopefully...

Thanks John. Thanks NouveauDance - I have certainly seen link that in my internet travels to try to find the answer to my anally-retentive question. But it just further confuses me - the track length listed on Discogs is 6:45, while the version of the song I have is definitely 7 minutes (and of actual music - it's not like there's 15 seconds of silence at the end). Possibly the track length of 6:45 (that I've seen all over the place) is wrong? Does anyone else have the song and can check it's actual length, maybe?

Also, Discogs lists this 6:45 version as a 'Dance Version' - where as the it's clearly an extended version. It hasn't been danci-fied in any way.

The label (not the text, which is wrong) shown at this place: http://www.discomusic.com...1_0_2_0_C/ calls a version the 'Long Version', again at 6:45.

Thanks for your help - and any more to come!?

Back then, a lot of extended versions were called things like 'Dance Mix' - it just meant it was mixed/extended for the disco, not that it's got a banging house beat or anything wink

Very true - Actually I just checked out the 'dance' mixes on Ultimate to refresh my memory and they are extended versions rather than RE-mixes. That also suggests the 'Long Version' and 'Dance Version' are one in the same if the track lenght is the same. So that's that mystery solved. Thanks NouveauDance.

So is the Dance Mix (and/or Long Version) actually 7 minutes long and the 6:45 printed on the the label is inaccurate? If anyone would be kind enough to look on their itunes to check, I can then (hopefully) move on in life! T'would be much appreciated smile

I don't have my 12" to hand, but the vinyl rip on my ipod is 6:59. You might have downloaded a rip that was recorded at slightly wrong speed or something, hence the 'missing' 15 seconds or so.

Edit: Of course what I meant is - Either the vinyl label is incorrect or our rips are dunce

It is funny.....I did not even know Apollonia 6 had an album until 1987 when a friend picked me up from LAX and was playing it in the car. Needless 2 say, he never got that tape back. razz

I knew about Apollonia 6 from the start (almost) in 1984 becuz of a 1 hour show on radio, one of the songs played was (wrongly) called "Merry Christmas Mr. Christian", haha I'm sure they mixed the title "Happy Birthday Mr. Christian" with the David Bowie movie "Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence", well that's my guess... but nice to hear both "Sex Shooter" and "Happy b-day Mr. Christian" played on radio.

Also played on this radioshow were Baby I'm A Star, Computer Blue, Darling Nikki, I Would Die 4 U, Purple Rain, Jungle Love, The Glamorous Life, Nasty Girl....

I still have this 1 hour radio show from danish P3 on tape (and now digitalized on cd), it's about..

Prince,
The Time,
Sheila E.,
Vanity 6
Apollonia 6,
Prince Vs. MJ

from 1984, in danish of course, the host is the legendary danish dj Al Jones.

the show is about the premiere of Purple Rain the movie in Denmark, and about Prince's Starr Company and his way to fame.

If any danes should be interested I will gladly upload the program as Mp3, just send me an orgnote.

I hope this offer about a radio show from 1984 isn't breaking any rules...? smile

NouveauDance, it appears you are right - our rips appear to be at the wrong speed! I tracked down a 6:45 second version and played it simultaneously with 7 min version, in order to see where the extra 15 seconds of music appeared. But the 7 min version just started to lag behind - which si when the penny dropped! Odd that your version should be the same length as my original (which has now been replaced) but that explanation does seem to tie everything up. Thanks for all your help with this!
