The Reason Why LotusFlow3r has not been Played on Radio (BBC)

Well I Never, Asked my radio station in the UK The BBC why have not played the new Prince CD and here's the reply..... eek

Thanks for contacting us with your question about Prince's new album
'Lotusflow3r'. This is to let you know that we have in fact played
tracks from the album, both on Radio 2 and 6Music.

Trevor Nelson played a track from the album on import when it first came
out. The album was reviewed on Roundtable on Steve Lamacq's show and it
was planned to feature in Independents Day this Saturday with Andrew
Collins along with spot plays on Radio 2.

Unfortunately we haven't been able to play it a lot as Prince has not
officially licensed the album for sale in the UK yet
, and in order to be
added to our playlists, we do require songs ideally to be commercially
available in this market - even if only digitally.

I hope this answers your query and that you continue to enjoy listening.

Best wishes,

6 Music Website Team.

i hope you pointed out that the album is available for legal download in the uk via his official website www.lotusflow3r.com for the low price of $77.77 for a years annual subscription

not that it would make the slightest bit of difference regarding them playing it. i don't suppose they played much of his last few albums either

This is why bein a Prince fan pisses me off sometimes nod If they were 2 play these tracks below he would get some recongition.....

1. Chocolate Box (Probably the most commercial track IMO)
2. Dance 4 Me
3. Crimson and Clover
4. Ol' Skool Company
5. Colonized Mind

I hate the way his music ignored...even if it is his own doing cry
Everybody's looking 4 the ladder
Everybody wants salvation of the soul
The steps U take are no easy road
But the reward is great
4 those who want 2 go

they've probably spam blocked your email address now, as bbc do that with all prince fans as they know they will always start an argument over the reply. they will also circulate your details to other media outlets as part of a "loony list" that includes fans of status quo, cliff richard and michael jackson

mmm l was thinking u know if prince takes note of this to licensed the album (lotusflow3r) for sale in the UK ....
and if he did his album would creep up the charts if he thinks abt this ..and in that way he will get the british people buys the albums and that is the only way his sales would go up...
so maybe he should licensed the album to help lotusflow3r topped the charts...
perhaps that explains why lotusflow3r is not doing so well as its only licensed in the united states .....its not enough to make the album to sell well..

that is up to prince what he wants to do ... we cant make the choice for him
cool

personally i prefer it if they don't play him over here, fuck them if they don't want to buy the albums. you get smaller venues for live shows and it's easier to get down the front. he've proven he can play the o2 more times than anyone ever will, he's done all the LA and vegas stuff, so time to get back the prince we really love the best, which is just making the music he wants, and people either buy it or we don't

the radio is an aural attack on peoples ears and brains these days, let them fill the airwaves full of shite, talk over the best parts of the fucking records and constandly remind us the time every five fucking minutes whilst we're stuck at work in a job we hate, and every 15 minutes tell us how shite the weather is outside, and when you are on the way to and from road they can keep telling us how fucking blocked the roads are, amongst depressing news on the hour, jingles that will turn you fucking crazy, and mind numbing adverts

fuck radio up it's stupid arse. if you want to listen to a dj talk instead of play records, please kill yourself

The fact that Prince has decided to go against the grain on the way Record labels work and not send out promo's is his decision. But to then wonder why he isn't on the radio airwaves is laughable.

Maybe Radio stations are scared to play his music in case the get a nice letter from his lawyers.....

He sure doesn't like his music on the internet, seems to me he doesn't want it on the airwaves either.

3121 was Radio 2s album of the week when it first came out.Tracks from Musicology and Planet Earth were also getting decent rotation.
Because Prince decided to give Planet Earth away in a newspaper he pretty much shot himself in the foot by how future albums will be distributed in the UK.A lack of proper release of Lotusflower over here only strengthens my theory.
[Edited 7/11/09 15:51pm]
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!
woot!

But during the 21 nights shows he was saying how he loved London so much he was going to change his passport!

Then his next move was to release an album and not even make it available to London?

You guys must have really pissed him off somehow.

Well if Prince released a cd in the UK and not in the USA, I would find a way 2 get a copy of the album. The Target website, Amazon.com, overseas pen pal...it's not best way, but it is a way.

Unless rules have changed, I think the BBC's response was a load of rubbish. In the 90's when Prince released the 1-800 New Funk album, Mark Goodier bought the album back from America and played Standing at the Alter a lot!

I think that, other than in the U.S., Prince really screwed up the release of Lotusflow3r. Think about it, there was only one country in the world where the cd was available for over a month after it's release. In today's market a huge chunk of your sales are in the first week. For the entire world, with the exception of the U.S., we could not buy Lotusflow3r in our own countries. After a month a lot of the hype died down and Prince basically stopped promoting the album so of course a lot of people did not buy it when it was finally made available. I'm not sure how high Lotusflow3r would have charted in various foreign markets but it seems logical to assume that by deciding to not make the album available that Prince lost quite a bit of sales. With Musicology and Planet Earth Prince was given a lot of credit for coming up with innovative ways to distribute his music but I think it's fair to say that with Lotusflow3r he took a huge backwards step.

Yes, I realise that the album was available to the whole world for download before it was released in the U.S. but I think there were a lot of folks who would not pay $77.00 to do so. Maybe if Prince had offered the album as a download for ten bucks more people would have heard it?
